They did mention setting up another DC for us in EU not long after EW launched.

However, I question the need for it anymore. The new servers we got being fairly dead in the water from my experience.

During EW launch we had a pandemic and wow migration, of course SE sits on the numbers but from a player pov, it doesn’t seem necessary at this point.

I also doubt the launch going to be as chaotic as EW was due to changes to login servers, adding more hardware and move to the cloud. Plus, a summer release vs a winter one probably will have less stress on the servers due to holidays and warm weather etc.

And that's why the never opened the new EU data center they prepared for. At this point, it's not needed.

If DT launch ends up as congested as EW, despite the changes to the login servers and hardware updates, they may decide the new data center is needed. Any new world starts off dead. It takes a few years before they start feeling alive. Spriggan and Twintania were dead until the main WoW exodus began despite having been added 2 years earlier.

As for the cloud, they've never announced their conclusions that arrived at following the test. As smooth as things may have seemed to us players who participated once the first day congestion problems went away, I'm certain they were looking at far more than that. We don't know that they're going to start moving servers to the cloud or utilizing it in any way until they announce something.

Currently, if a house is abandoned during a lottery cycle, you can't bid on it. I was helping my friend scout for small houses the other day and there were several houses that said "unavailable for purchase"

Announcement about the EU data center:

In preparation for Dawntrail’s release, a new logical data center, Shadow, will be added to the European Data Center.

We will be monitoring the number of concurrent logins to determine the opening date of Shadow Data Center Worlds, which will be announced at a later date.

* Following the maintenance on Tuesday, 7 May, the Shadow Data Center will be added to the Data Center Selection menu but will remain inaccessible until the actual launch of the data center. Attempting to connect to the Shadow Data Center prior to its launch will result in an error.

Since they say it's in preparation for Dawntrail's release, hopefully we'll get to travel there to avoid congestion during launch.

It is curious that they’re not doing the same for NA though. They must consider Dynamis to still be too empty, even to open up the locked wards. Although I don’t remember… did EU get a new DC when NA got Dynamis? Or was it postponed and Shadow is the first? I remember them saying they were going to add 2 DCs to each at one point.

EU got 4 new servers around the same time as Dynamis was added. 2 servers on Light DC and 2 servers on Chaos DC. They are still pretty dead despite being on established data centers and have some of their housing wards locked just like Dynamis servers do. The original plan was to add Shadow DC and the rest of Dynamis servers in 2023, but they postponed those. I think further server expansions for EU and NA have probably been canceled, as there just isn't any need for them.

Oh I see… there was something about making every DC have 8 worlds so they would all be even I think. So Dynamis was planned to have 8 total worlds and we have half of that right now. I couldn’t remember how it was supposed to go lol
