I really enjoyed the boss battle, kinda disappointed they didn't do more with the overall event though. The XV event felt a lot more satisfying. We did a Fate, we searched for some stray enemies, which turned out to be a Daemon, we got a nice bonding moment with Noctis and then we had the finale with Garuda.

With Clive we just move from quest to quest, with barely any cutscenes, would have loved to see Clive's reaction to bording an Airship, and then we fight Ifrit and the Event is basically over.

A lot of people seemed to like it, but I actually found it disappointing. The 15 event gave us more quest, a FATE, a mini boss battle, and then the big boss battle; this gave us the weird minstrel, a bit of talking, and then a boss battle. Even the rewards were skewed more in favor of 15 with the hair.

I mean, I get the intention behind not wanting to spoil things, but if you're going to do a crossover event, you need to *do it* - if spoiling is a concern, then SE honestly should just have not done the event yet.

I'm poor and behind on a lot of the games (haven't even played 13, not to mention 15 or 16), but I have to accept that after a certain amount of time, "spoiling" isn't a thing anymore. If I haven't played it, but decide to do the event anyway, that's on me. It's how I walked into the 15 event, and how I walked into this one.

I'd have much preferred the event to have happened much later and actually have substance with it, then getting it as soon as possible but gutted.

I agree with that. They should have waited at least the PC release for that or leave the event permanently until some time after the PC release. Especially since FFXIV is mostly played on PC outside Japan, a spoil from a game I chose to not do is not a problem. A spoil from a game that I want to do and is still, to this day, not available to me is something different. (I could talk all day about how the PC release policy of SE is not to the benefits of their games, since they release them when only die hard fans still care. How many people were hyped by XVI and don't care anymore because of the mixed reviews. At least it's from a team that is used to produce pc games, there is hope that it won't be a Nier Automata/FFVII Remake/most of SE pc port case. But that's not the point here)

I haven't played FFXVI but I feel like the spoilers were unnecessarily specific. He could have just gone on about vengeance for something non-specific and then got back his memories and said he doesn't need to burden us with the details. Then he goes back to his world and the minstrel can give his "maybe you can learn the full story someday" speech.

For what we saw, it threw spoilers without the emotional weight to back them up, when they probably hit harder in their proper context.

Glamour-wise, the outfit is alright but fits rather oddly and really needs that second dye slot.

While the armour being attached to the pants is interesting, it would have been nice to also get an additional gear piece of the same gear design configured as long armoured boots.

Also, given that the game runs on the same engine as FFXIV, it seems like it should be quite straightforward to port over all of the character outfits. I don't know the game enough to give names, but I saw pictures of the characters and there are a few things there that I would like to get. Maybe it will pop up as gear in Dawntrail.

After doing a playthrough again I’ve kinda realised the actual content of the event was pretty bad outside the solo duty (which I am honestly shocked they managed to make feel so similar to 16’s fluid combat given 14’s engine) even if the rewards are fantastic

The WOL functionally did nothing and Clive had no real agency it was all basically the wandering minstrel magically figuring everything out for us

I get this was to avoid Clive lore dumping on us about valaesthia (like if Clive had his memories when we did the conversation about the aetheryte I probably would have gotten a whole 10 minute speech about bearers, the mothercrystals and the crystal accord) and that if someone didn’t figure it out it’s not like Clive ever would given how different valaesthia is but I at least wish the events played out a little more organically than what basically amounted to the minstrel doing everything for us (for example the events of the 15 collab felt like they played out organically and were on point with noctis, of course noctis hadn’t lost his memories but still)

Now I will say that Clive appearing on etheryis during the trip to the depths of pheonix gate (which is where Clive comes to the same realisation he does in the collab in actual 16) is actually fantastic because it functionally means the collab doesn’t remotely mess up 16’s lore because during the vision Clive could have travelled to etheryis. That is something I really appreciate I just kinda wish on my next playthrough of 16 when I get to that point I’m actually interested in remembering what happened in the collab which circling back to the original point beside the solo duty I’m kinda not

I doubt they will ever expand the collab even though 16 is CBU3’s own game but I would love when the PC port is released and the collab returns if they do more with it, imagine if you get caught up in Clive returning and get sent to an instance of valaesthia and you help the hideaway complete some taste before helping Clive fight a dominant to a standstill before being pulled back to etheryis. That would really get people talking. Right now the collab I don’t feel like really ropes you into 16 (besides Clive being hot AF but we all knew that already)

Ohno wait are the boots not like thigh high sabatons then? How do they work if the armours on the pants? Are they like office-shoe shaped but armoured? I've been too out of the loop playing Dragon's Dogma but this has kinda dropped my motivation to hop on and do the event sooner rather than later -_-

The boots are indeed like flats. Theeg piece has the armor attached. On another note the outfit dyes horribly not too fond of it imo

I've never looked into XVI at all, but I really enjoyed the event. It's pretty short, and most of it is just running (or being ported) around, but the fight was fun (went as DNC). And the mount is adorable. I also really enjoyed the music. I know FF titles are generally praised for their soundtracks, but XIV's music doesn't really do much for me, with some exceptions.

I'm actually semi-tempted to check it out when it comes to PC. :X Success!

As for Clive, he's looking all purdy with his visual upgrades and what not, HOWEVER, in several scenes the lower half of his face was looking kinda funky. I was having a hard time placing what it reminded me of, and then it dawned on me...

The hair/eyes are so detailed, and then the mouth and scruff look like someone got carried away with a blur tool. Thankfully this was only in certain lighting. And obviously it's nowhere near that bad, by a long shot, but it kept making me giggle once it was in my head.

    The event was extremely meh.

My eyes glazed over and my brain instantly checked out due to the amnesia plot device.

The fight was terribly mediocre. First go was on my tank character and the duty actions didn't feel like anything special. After using the dodge for the dozenth time, I was already over the fight and wanted it to end. Second go was with my healer character, shouldn't need to explain how I felt that time... *cough*healer combat is trash*cough*. Maybe if I had a dps player's mindset where using a form of mitigation for the first time in their ffxiv career could be considered exciting and new, I guess.

FFXV's Garuda fight a lot more fun. Warping around the arena and syncing warp-strike was far more engaging.
