This is about correct. Now whether he would've actually lost his games or not aside, it seems like he would've been restricted from community features. However, it is clear by Chris's post that I posted earlier, that at least HE hoped it would affect his gaming library. Which just shows a toxic vindictiveness. This was my understanding as well: SBI got their collective panties in a twist because of group on Steam making list of their projects with less than positive motive, aka helping people to avoid games they had been involved with. I think this is entirely within the rights of consumer. And then they tried to have the group's founder banned; I am console rat, so the heck I know, but isn't there side implication that if the guy would have been banned he would have lost all the games he bought by Steam?
I applaud you for doing your own research. I just try to provide what I can since most people do not have the time. And it beats the people blindly sticking their head in the sand throwing more buzzwords at it. I've also decided to finally post some of the twitter links of Chris Kindred's further racist behavior on twitter. And I do have one of the posts of another SBI employee they posted in the steam curator forums before they got closed down. (They were semi-succesful. But the curator group lives on)Now, I haven't followed this situation too closely, but neither have I ignored it. I feel like seeing and listening people to talk their mind gives most of the time pretty good window into their thoughts, so at least I tried to find some videos of Belair talking about her work. I just wanted to find the whole context to her "go to marketing and twist their wrist a little" and "babypigs" comments. Didn't find everything I was looking for, but heard and saw enough to help me form my own first impression of her and her company. It's less than positive opinion now.
A big issue here too is, that whilst you're a 'console rat,' they've just been behaving like rats. Scrubbing the internet, locking their accounts, hiding their tweets. And getting a lot of gaming journalists to cover for them by omitting parts of the story that make them look bad. (Not even just gaming journalist... this is a continuously evolving story. And a lot of people are doing their best to archive tweets and evidence of involvement. And illegal blacklist activity, etc)

Yeah, I've no direct links. But certainly a lot of red flags that, as you said. "It would be naive and hard to dismiss the possibility."Summa summarum, in context of this thread's topic; I haven't seen anything what would point towards Bryer being hired having anything to do with DEI stuff directly. I also think it would be naive to hard dismiss the possibility with Microsoft link and SBI link, to SE, provably there. Even if it's by other projects than FFXIV. I think these things absolutely can be so squiggly that SE could get some benefit they see worthwhile by doing some diversity hiring for any of their projects. It's just business, come on...
As I stated many times in this thread. I do not put the fault on Bryer. I'm just annoyed at people on the internet gaslighting people like you can see even in this thread, and wanted to find out the truth. What people do what that information is ultimately up to each individual themselves. I'm not here to tell anyone what to do. "You don't pay my sub" kinda attitude. And even then, then what? Well, if the proof of nepotism will be found and proven, I won't be surprised. All I can do is speak with my words and vote with my wallet.
I am not fan of Bryer's work in and with FFXIV, or some pretty lame opinions she has seen important enough to broadcast in X. But I want her and her fans to continue living their best lives. I don't play with audio on most of the time anyway.
It's just sad, but not too surprising to see. Having followed Square since the psx days, this to me seems like Square is having a rough financial time. As all the signs are repeated from their historical Big project failures. (Spirits Within, Final Fantasy XIV 1.0, now Forespoken.)
And mind you, this isn't THE reason for my own break/quitting either. I've got so much reasons I could start my own thread. I've had my love for XIV dwindling for the last 4 years with all the simplifications and single player focus, jobs that got neutered to a 2 minute meta so people barely need to talk even within raids anymore. I play XIV for the social experience and glamour, and most of that is gone or moved to the cash shop. I'm still waiting to see for the press tour to see if they fix the Astrologian, and if that can change my mind.
It's just about enough for me to say; I've played since 1.0, I think I've had my best times with it. And with how XIV is made, I don't feel too bad for taking a break that I 'might' not come back from unless shit gets sorted. My only sunk cost fallacy is the housing, which I've left behind before for personal reasons.

Heh, yeah. I agree with you there.
Glad to be of service o7
It's the people like you that I do this for. As there's been so many great contributors to this thread with interesting and valid opinions. And of course people may disagree, to each their own. I'm not trying to invalidate other people's experiences. But the gaslighting and trying to invalidate ours, just shows the amounts of bad faith. And why the reddit totalitarian mod team has been so hard handed in making over hours deleting any evidence of criticism.
As someone who spend about a 3rd of their life on this game, it's not weird to want to know what's going on. And a forum should be one of the highest forms of discussion and enlightenment in the world. Things may get heated, things might even get vile. But in the end of the day, words are just words. And we stand to learn a lot from them. Even ones we disagree with.

Yes, you have nothing against her. You just want to push a conspiracy theory and try and tarnish her reputation. Nothing against her, right? Taking this thread so far off the rails and turning it into your conspiracy theory bully pulpit to rage against DEI.As I stated many times in this thread.
Also, please learn what nepotism really is. When there isn't an open casting call (and to my knowledge SE has never done one for FFXIV), then casting is done via pared down recommendations. Casting directors will send out role requirements to one or more agencies/firms, and get a list of potentials for auditions. Then, whoever does casting for the localization team, does the auditions and hires. It's not nepotism just because you don't like one of those possible firms.

Seeing this thread, I now know why the forum mods, community reps, and dev team abandoned the EN forums. (ㆆ _ ㆆ)
Oh hey, you said more than just buzzwords for once. Go you.
I like how you've gone from straight "Transphobia!" and "Conspiracy!", to slowly admitting more of this is true though.
No conspiracies here. Sweet Baby Inc. is a DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) consultancy group. Their CEO also gives speeches at the GDC (Game Developers Conference) to teach other developers and consultancy groups to use Scare/Intimidation tactics to get their changes implemented. How exactly is still debated, though there are people from the industry stepping forward as whistleblowers currently.
Now I recognize this is just one such group. But this group in particular, Does have Square Enix under their clientele.
So this is possibly relevant.
Especially when your "sensitivity reader" and "game writer" for "diversity, equity, and inclusion" apparently loves talking racist shit on twitter, and how they want to abort jews off the planet.
So we have the fact that Square Enix are clients of Sweet Baby Inc. People clearly are noticing something's off about this character, or you wouldn't hear people chiming in here. Upto page 63 no less. You're free to have your own opinions, and I didn't state anything definitive. But this does look like a red flag to me if you tally in Sena Bryer's activism history on Twitter.
Where, if you read what she says. By her very own logic, she should step down.I said these are the links to what could've likely happened. And what people have suspected of being nepotism. No need to assign me with ill and toxic accusations, when you clearly don't know me. Straw manning and ad hominem attacks mostly makes You look bad.Small update here, since Square Enix made a deal with Microsoft.
To shorten my Microsoft message a little, you can still read back the original. Whilst Microsoft themselves say they do not mandate these changes. We've had 2 developers coming out to describe the sweeping changes they've inside their companies after partnering up with Microsoft.
- Hiring of a DEI director
- Hiring of consulting firm to gender balance and review hiring/promotion policies.
- Hiring of Sweet Baby Inc. to work on the published games.
This last bit seems to sort out, as Sweet Baby Inc. has Square Enix in their client list. Making it seem like like people's suspicion of nepotism for our voice actor could have been the result of the gender balancing.

An account where 24 of its 29 post are on this thread and the remaining 5 are from 2019 and before. You couldn't even be bothered to post on this character during covid.
I personally don't get the appeal of multi-accounting on the forums but to each their own I suppose. ꉂ (´∀`)ʱªʱªʱª
This looks more like something that belongs in the BG3 Steam forums. Blaming Sweet Baby Inc. for the Final Days? Another thread about not liking some woman's voice because (insert whatever borderline sexist reason here) and demanding SE immediately fire her?
Good gravy.
