This is true yeah, I guess I just would like to avoid using the coins if possible. I have a feeling you will only be able to buy them in certain increments which leads to having to buy more than you need each month when you could just pay the flat sub fee on any other platform.

So in other words.
Is it basically a Xbox version of "Crysta"

They really went out of their way to make the Xbox version have as much red tape as possible.

Since it looks like these coins are only purchasable on the xbox store, and those with ONLY an xbox account linked HAVE to make all purchases with these coins. It seems most likely it's just Microsofts way of making sure they get their cut of every FFXIV transaction made by xbox players.

Microsoft really wants a piece of the pie.
Nope, this is a contractual thing between Valve and the game vendor. Valve forbids transfer of MMORPG accounts off Steam. This affects other MMORPGs on steam as well (i.e. GW2 or ESO). This is why you should never, ever buy a MMORPG on Steam.I think it's a unique situation between steam and PC because like someone else mentioned, I don't think they expect folks to want both a steam license and a PC license since both versions are played on a PC. Regardless, PlayStation and steam, or PlayStation and PC have never had any problems being linked onto one account. That is primarily what this thread is about. The wording in the lodestone post says previously used accounts can be linked. That is not the confusing part. The confusing part is how the Xbox currency ties into a linked account. Specifically a situation where some expansions are registered on one platform and not the other.
*buys all her mmorpgs on Steam*

I'm chalking it up to Microsoft shenanigans, but it's hard to know how all this will actually play out until Xbox has a live ecosystem up and running with players to experience it first-hand.
But as a passive observer i cannot help but feel like i'm watching a bunch of new FFXIV players get on a faulty plane without concern for its passengers, and all i want to do is tell them all to perhaps use another plane company.
(sorry for the vague 'boeing plane' references)
