I don't think this is even an argument. Everyone knows that the shout/yell spam is annoying af. The solution is to make different chat channels like in other games. (general, trade etc...) And if some ppl keep spamming general with their crap then its reportable.
Why do other ppl need to bend over backwards when the advertisers already have an avenue for them to use (PF)?
But the devs seem to be of the mind that talking is toxic if it doesn't adhere to a weird robotic norm. Go to any other game and you see banter and dank jokes in chat all the time. Imagine getting a strike or a ban for a joke. I would say the rules are a joke.

Right? Common sense. People trying to fight about it are just worried their pixel smut empire will crumble due to lack of people to extort gil from, if they can't be disruptive with chat spam.

A lot of people like to forget XIV is the black sheep when it comes to a lot of how it functions. They also like to forget that talking in XIV died due to the ToS being too vague and people being report happy when their egos got bruised. Like so many mass reporting incidents happened and because of them people stopped talking as much, and what little people who WERE still talking, stopped talking due to RP ad spam.

And I know a lot of people don't wanna remember it/acknowledge it/were here for it, but this all happened over the last 4 -5 years, from the end of Stormblood, to now. Mid Shadowbringers bought ina lot of people, the game got very cliqueish, people were being petty over all types of stuff, people started just dominating shout chats with ads when venues got popular during covid. And it sucks because seeing people chat in game made the game feel alive, now it just feels like the same bot spam for gold selling that was a huge issue way back when.

Ha I remember when gil bot ads used to be annoying, now they're not even a problem with so many players spamming the hell out of chat. I had to quit 2 weeks before shb launch , and returned in 5.3. CULTURE SHOCK WHAT THE HELL IS THIS PLACE??
The primal servers I played on got yeeted into crystal with the split. The community was completely different, extremely toxic, with fake positivity. Sjw's everywhere, attacking anyone they could if it was easy to blow things out of proportion, as if that's some sort of art. Shadow lurkers everywhere who only ever spoke to attack someone and call them racist/sexist etc.
Prior to that , everyone was cool. They were helpful. They taught people, they had common courtesy. People had macros to explain mechanics in alliance raids, macros to explain how to adjust settings during trains to reduce lag etc. People used to dismiss their chocobos on trains to help reduce the load. None of these things happen anymore, and if it was requested, it was met with toxicity. Gcbtw.

I still remember the hours upon hours looking for fates in Eureka, fate trains at thanalan or sometimes even at our living district...

I honestly think the issue is being blown way out of proportion because the way it's being phrased makes it seem like the chat in general is unusable which just isn't true.
It's important to realize that Shout chat is used for a variety of things, and the focus is being put on RP advertisements in general.

What this neglects is the other ways this chat is utilized.
FC advertisements, people shouting out their twitch, etc.
How would this affect them? Are they free to use shout chat as they please?

Most RP shouts are generally kept to one message, so what would make them any different besides the content you have issue with?
Outside of ones being overly explicit, they do not break any ToS.

I do not even disagree with the idea but what I dislike is how everything is being framed.
I am not opposed to a filter in the chat log that can be toggled like you can with say chat, yell chat, shout chat, etc.
Or even a word filter which was mentioned prior.
Personally, I would even like to see a filter of some kind for party finder, and given we already have a status for roleplaying it would make sense to categorize roleplay content.

Imo just move all the ads to said new channel. Keep it simple. I think having a feature to filter out certain words might have posts slipping thru the cracks , or potentially block out some messages that people would want to see while attempting to avoid others, but tbh anything would be a huge improvement if it reduces the spam.

Having a venue tag and rp tag for pf might help a bit but still need to enforce usage of it and not spamming shout

Most venue shouts are not kept to just one message. Most tend to either be a large wall of text or broken into 3 or 4 separate paragraphs. This is the problem people are trying to point out as the issue area and believe me. It's a problem area in the cities.

People also aren't pointing out the other shouts if you noticed. It's just the venue ad shout and yes it's quite disruptive if you in the middle of a chat and a large wall of text or multiple ads go off as I've seen happen. Then you gotta open your chat log and scroll up to see last thing said.

These folks are not over exaggerating this in any capacity.

As was explained. They do break tos in the way that they are disrupting peoples gameplay. It's a double edged razor as the ad shouters playing game in their way but other edge of razor could get them in trouble for disruption of gameplay for the people in the cities trying to talk amongst themselves.

As for a filter. No real way unless you can implement the name of the venue plus all variants into the dictionary and have a hard limit or somehow have a character limit on ads.

As for pf. I actually gave a suggestion long ago that was quickly buried that would see a registration system in place e and once filled out. The designated pf advertisers was limited to I think I said 2 at most. Anything after would be flagged and couldn't be posted at all. See with pf it's the spam that some places think they must do. Wish the community would learn you really don't need more then 2 up in pf.

My suggestion: Provide a configuration option for the chat window that lets me set how many lines to show for each message. There would presumably be a button-like thing to expand out messages that get cut-off by this setting. There could be different settings for say vs. yell vs. shout vs. free company vs. whatever.

My rationale: A wall of text is a wall of text. Rather than spending energy on trying to classify what others are saying and how they're saying it, give me an option that I can use to control my own experience.
