    I dislike auto crits. Partially because if a crit is guaranteed to happen, that basically removes the entire point. The point of a critical hit is to be a little surprising bonus to give you an extra hit of dopamine. If you know it's gonna happen every time then that aspect of it is totally dead. The other reason being that it cheapens crit materia and crit buffs which forces awkward party comps/metas. I agree with what Aravell said on page 1, that is the balance concern around high potency attacks critting vs not is solved very easily by having all of them just deal multiple hits so the crit variance is essentially spread across those hits.

    It doesn’t cheapen crit materia because crit materia already stacks twice because it increases change and damage, making chance 100% just makes it so crit scales the same as the other materia

    As for crit buffs (like chain) on auto crits they just change into pure damage ups so they are really disadvantaged either

    I feel like attaching auto-crits to all high potency abilities is just kind of a necessary evil at this point due to the sheer amount of damage you can lose from bad RNG, which is exasperated in fights with multiple DPS checks like ultimates where not getting a DH crit can have a substantial influence on how easily you can beat an enrage.

    Why not just lower all potencies into reasonable ranges and rebalance the game instead?

    Because as we know square refuses to nerf anything In this game
