Very true. Final Fantasy XIV is an adult game, whether people want to admit it or not. There's a reason why Square Enix finds erotic modding acceptable and encourages adult roleplay venues: it keeps people subbed year-round. Plus, people just like cybersex. Everyone in this thread can agree that the "birds and the bees" is natural and healthy because that's how babies are made. So how is FFXIV any different? This is what FFXIV is now and most people are okay with it. Square Enix does a good job of catering to its core audience which is why shout ads are 100% acceptable and encouraged. Why do you think we play this game in the first place?

If you want a more teen-friendly MMO, then World of Warcraft is your option. It looks like a Disney cartoon and doesn't have much erotic activities outside of Moon Guard. Or play any other MMO or online game which is focused on gameplay instead of adult business.

The reasoning seems very, very hasty to me. Even if I'm more on the side of those who don't want a ban on ERP.

Knowing how biology works has nothing to do with the current debate: it's the visibility of the thing that poses the problem. I'm well aware that my neighbours are sexually active, but I'd rather not hear about it.

IG sex doesn't produce children, so the "it's healthy because it produces kids" argument is out of date, if not completely beside the point.

Not everyone is "ok" with that. This thread and the many others that have already taken place on the forum prove it. Another thing: cybersex is akin to a form of fetishism. And without placing any particular blame on this practice, it necessarily remains more confidential... So it's potentially more disturbing for those who aren't into it.

And finally, one last thing: adult =/= erotic themes. There are a thousand and one ways of making content mature, and constantly equating sex with maturity is not only reductive... But it's also potentially dangerous for the quality of the content, given the number of low-quality products that have come out recently that use and abuse sex as a pseudo-sign of maturity. The suicide of the general in Garlemald is a mature theme. But sex, knowing that people sometimes indulge in it as young as 12-13? Nope.

Well the issue is people think it's always for the sexual gratification or the need of these people personally, while for some it is, for many it's just fun to people watch in game and to see what people will say to them in many situations. For other it's an easy way to make gil and to entertain.

Again this spawned out of a need when covid hit, what was once for the few turned into a thing many indulged in. I also don't think it's wrong to seek connections online, in this day and age it's more common then most people are willing to believe. So no need to shame them for their way of creating social connections.

The issue is simple, the ads are just out of hand. What you and your wife do behind closed doors is your business. Ya'll could be swingers for all anyone knows, but. it's ya'lls busniess.

I have never heard anyone refer to ERP as "glamorous" in my life. It's pretty universally viewed as sad and pathetic by everyone that isn't actively engaged in it.

This. If there's one thing I find a little distasteful in the ERP community (or, to be more accurate: among those who are ardent advocates of it), it's that the general RP community has always heavily, very heavily insisted on showing respect for the other player. I've never RP'd on JVs, but I do within Dnd5, and the rules are the same:

- In the case of "particular" RP (torture, for example; and of course, romance and sex), it's imperative to ask if the other player is OK with this type of theme.
- The overriding rule is to have fun. If the other player is no longer having fun, we stop. Immediately.

However, in the case cited by the OP, these rules are not respected. Which also answers AlexiaD's post: the problem isn't that you're having fun via ERP, but that you're sometimes doing so outside acceptable limits. Here, by making sure of two things before interacting with the player: that he agrees with the principle of the RP, and that he agrees with the approach to sexual themes. I've already met a player who wanted to do ERP with my character; something which, personally, bothers me. He didn't ask beforehand if I was ok with the principle, insisted during the play session even though I'd told him it wasn't my thing => the DM kicked him out of the group the very next session.

There are places and people out there who think normal RP is also sad and pathetic but for different reasons from the ERP crowd. Usually, because people tend to live way too stuck up into their head canon which can be considered a type of mental disorder. It also can have a damaging impact on your life, your social life, and particular places of the game's future such as the game's lore. I've seen this happen within FFXIV. It's why the WoL remains stoic most of the time because it bothered the RPers to see their OC behave in ways that didn't fit their characters.

Also, a lot of normie RPers will engage with ERP and think they aren't one of the bad ones because they did it through the story. The cringiest thing about any RPer is the ones who say silly things like, "I didn't make them do that. My character has a mind of their own. They wanted to do that.". Then be acting like they shouldn't be held accountable for any actions or behavior they did while in RP mode. Like the people who ERP through 'Story' behind their partner's back then be all like, "It's just story babe, my character wanted it". Then get mad at their partner for being mad at them over it like they shouldn't be held accountable.

I’m not usually the one to complain, but the large amount of spamming of events on /shout is getting very out of hand on Excalibur. I don’t care about a 5 minute painting of my character (how can you draw my beautiful character in 5 minutes?!), your party, your brothel, or plays? It’s annoying the crap out of me. I really wish to report it as spam as it is way out of hand.
