I would have some sympathy if I hadn't literally "won" at least 3 contests just by participating, because they stated they were giving away x amount of prizes, and less than x amount of players submitted entries.

Most recently was the NA fanfest contests in 2023. There were 4 categories with 50 prizes each, 200 possible prizes, and players were allowed to enter 1 entry in all 4 categories. I submitted entries in 2/4 categories, didn't get picked in one category at all, but the 2nd category I entered in only had 37/50 winners... which means only 37 ppl even entered so they all automatically won. That was 13 prizes that weren't even awarded cuz not enough players participated. I also observed some players that won in multiple categories so they presumably won multiple prizes from one contest.

I'd first need to see every contest at maximum participation without a significant increase in the amount of prizes before I'd start rallying behind things needing to be changed.

Scarf of Wondrous Wit started as a contest prize, and then at some point, during an anniversary event iirc, they just let ppl buy it for a pittance of gil from an event NPC.
So there's that...

My biggest issue with contest prizes in general is, they never seem to actually run contests!
I have managed to catch 2 and get prizes from them but from what i have seen they are like hens teeth, like to me it feels like they add prizes more often than they actually hold contents for said prizes lol.

It's funny to me, because even though FF7 -by no means- pioneered the "weird anime hair" trope, whenever I would see anyone with a stupid looking hairstyle in other games, people would go "look at this final fantasy lookin' ass dude" because it was just understood that final fantasy characters had weird over the top hair
yet here in ff14, you have people (me too) just begging for some regular normal looking cuts because they're tired of looking like their barber came to work drunk all the time, lol
