Well excuse me for demanding that the MMORPG caters to my single player needs. I have 500 other games i need to play so i can't be playing 14 all the time and so the game should give me everything for playing 3 hours a week.
This toxic mmo design needs to go. This game is FINAL FANTASY FIRST and NOT an mmo. This is why the new SMN is PEAK design and is thematically CORRECT according to my analysis. Every class should be at the level of SMN because otherwise the game is demanding too much of me and my fellow single player MMO players.
Also the relic weapons lost their meaning when there is no process to get them other than running the same thing as you usually do. If you want a tome weapon go buy it. Relic weapon is meant to be a long process that fills the void of content lulls and gives meaning to the weapons. If you don't have time to do it then buy the tome weapon. It is that simple.

FF game first MMO second implies that it still is an MMO
the MSQ is the final fantasy part, the rest is an MMO, unless there is something in FF lore that implies that all content has to be so easy you fall asleep doing it
The relic weapon has always been top ilvl at the end of an expansion. There's nothing new going on here other than players have been given a lot more freedom of choice this expansion on how to get the relic compared to previous expansions.Should of made the relic 660 ilvl and make people actually do savage content better yet make the high end raiders feel rewarded rather then wait to have it replaced,
Do savage or spend 6000 tomes, a massive slap in the face to all people who did the tier. Be proud casual Players you don't deserve it.
There's no slap in the face to Savage raiders. There's just a massive slap in the face to those who think because they do a specific form of content that they're better and more deserving than others.
I was thinking more of the final weapon being something out of PSO2. Kinda like that Solution 9 area they teased also felt pulled from PSO2.
After all PSO2 had a FFXIV collab years ago where you could find Odin in the forest areas and fight him but the collab never swung back towards this game. Maybe next round will be Gerolt encountering someone from ARKS and he gets to try his hand at forging Photons lol.

You can't even do multiple steps at once with those relics, the grind for those is way more boring/mindless than on the heavensward or shadowbringer ones. Doing the same dungeons over and over again in 90's roulettes is just as tedious as anything, I don't know what you're on about preferring that. It has no story, no consistence, you're just buying your weapon essentially instead of doing anything for it as far as the story goes.
That might be why, all previous relics had a story attached to them, they felt special. Those do not as much.
This is one of the things that I'm sure people miss. The old relics had story, they had a plan to make them stronger, and now you have to go out and get the potentially rare material in order to make your weapon better. Your weapon felt special and the steps just enhanced that feeling.
With the current weapons, there isn't much story apart from making various oils to enhance aetherical conductivity, of which, the items needed to make the oil was stated as being very rare, but there happens to be a vendor nearby that sells them. Which is another problem. Why is it that Godbert, who is known to have a massive amount of wealth and who funds everything for these weapons, suddenly cannot afford to buy out space rock stock and instead gets us to collect them. If they had been harder to get it might have made sense for us to go out and spend time to collect them.
Also, as for the last step, though this is more of a personal gripe. The style of weapons just completely switches. They got from 'normal' weapons to something that seems to come from a more futuristic/technological age than the rest of the weapons. To make it clear, I have no issues with weapons that have this style, it just seems a bit jarring going to the last step. They could have made the DT relic be a more futuristic/tech style weapons and kept that theme throughout and it would have felt less out of place.

I don't think there has ever been a relic step players have been happy with.
No one liked atma grinding with its 2% drop rate per fate. No one liked the animus books, no one liked forking over all their time and money for novus. No one liked grinding alex for the HW relic, or grinding light. No one liked running Syrcus 15 times or going through both the Mhach/Ivalice raids 18 times each for a drop. Even the Eureka/Bozja steps had no end of criticism every step of the way.
Really, what is the solution? A solution that works for you might not work for other players, especially now that there are so many weapons/jobs that an old style grind would just burn players out for minimal gain. I agree that the relics this expac have been unimaginative, but really, would forcing the player to run Crystal Tower 30 times per weapon have made it any better? Because most relics just had you run shit over and over anyway, not much different that running roulettes for tomes. I personally think they were on to something with the idea of one-off long/grindy steps, but after that, it was easier to make subsequent relics, but even then, all that did was make you run the aforementioned raids over a dozen times, so I don't think that's a good solution either.
I absolutely agree that the storytelling behind the relic took a hit though, I'm surprised they tied it to the Hildebrand story in the first place, I thought it was so they could add joke weps, but that never happened.
