They said we are getting another melee because they like the idea of separating the 4 DPS into 2 melee and 2 ranged so the current distribution of jobs becomes 6 melee to 7 ranged rather than 6 melee to 4 casters to 3 physical ranged

But take a wide look at 8 man content and you realise that we currently have 8 support jobs for 4 slots in the party and 13 DPS for the other 4 slots, if we go the most likely route for 8.0 and get 1 tank and 1 physical ranged then we would end up 9 vs 14, I honestly think 8.0 needs a tank and a healer to better align support vs DPS
A new healer and tank would be a dream come true for me tbh, but I would still HATE not getting a new DPS too. I seriously hate how its just two jobs an expansion every single time. I wish once in awhile they would do three. This isn't 2.0, and 3.0 anymore. I believe if they really wanted to put the resources for it, they could find a way to do three jobs again.

They did three for 3.0 and explicitly said that they don't want to go through this again. The team was overworked so much that I vaguely remember Yoshida mentioning that they all went on a month long vacation after 3.0 release (which is generally unheard of for Japan). And "this isn't 2.0 or 3.0 anymore" is more so the reason why it would be a bad idea, because with higher amount of jobs it's getting harder to create new jobs and balance both new and old jobs around each other, not easier.

Sooooo yeah... most likely not happening, as DevTeam already been there. If nothing else, at some point we're likely to see the shift towards 1 job per expansion.

Creating new teams dedicated to balancing not only won't necessarily fix it - it can make things worse because in-department miscommunication is a thing and happens all the time as it is even within a single team, let alone if there's more than one working on the same thing. It's not all as easy as "just add more people" (I wish it was that easy as a developer, but yeah, nope).

If they had extra staff members, we could get more things like this. The dev team is always talking about constraints, and it makes me believe that they are working on a strawman budget and team. Its time to grow so that they can keep up. Not completely without limits obviously. I know that hiring too many people at once isn't the best thing, but they should assemble some new dev teams to help with other things that fans desire.

My feeling is that they just won't because the CEO won't approve it, which he should seriously think of doing. FFXIV is the lifeblood of the Final Fantasy series right now aside from FFXVI, and the VII remake. They have been facing some hard times, and without this game they wouldn't be as successful today.

Maybe Yoshi P should just threaten to leave the board, and ask them for more money as a compromise for not leaving lmao.
