I disagree. I would like to see new races added to the game in the future. However, I think we need improved character customization first.

There are so many character creation options from other "modern" games I'd rather see implemented to the existing races before adding anymore

For example:
blanket across all races

Eyeliner styles and RGB color selection
Underliner styles and RGB color selection
Eyeshadow styles and RGB color selection
Blush styles and RGB color selection
way way way more facial markings/tattoos and RGB color selection
fingernail and toenail paint style and RGB color selection (style as in patterns, and various digits painted/unpainted)
being able to manipulate the hair highlight boundaries (point of origin and size/scope of gradient)
existing extra features not locked to face selection for variety at character creation

Nah. They should absolutely keep the development of new races in their back pocket.

BUT

They should only release a new race when they are finished, like make sure they can wear all types of gear, and that both M, and F version can be released at the same time.

+1 on character creation improvements first. It's so limiting , it looks really bad amongst more modern MMOs. They've already done the graphics update as a measure to modernize the game, why not the character creator as well?

I actually agree that there should be a pause on new races. It's been really fun seeing all the wild suggestions people have but I hope the devs don't take any of this fantasizing to heart. At least not for a long time. I'd like to see more resources going towards job balance, character customization and glamour restrictions lifted personally. But at the very least I would like to see how and where the devs use the time they had allotted to race development in the future

We've had a new race/gender of race every expansion except Stormblood. I'd say it's completely fine to take an expansion off from creating new races, to focus on improving individual character customization.

Same. I’d definitely like to see more options for the existing races first. In the same vein, if we’ve got some devs that are just itching to make new race options, they could always add new “tribes” to the existing races! I know there’s a lot of people who’d like to see taller Au Ra females as well as different horn/scale patterns, more slight & delicate Elezen, a more mature dwarven version of Lala, etc.

I agree with OP, no new races for now. They are a waste of time and money, and the ones they have been making for the past while have been released in a shoddy and incomplete fashion. A new race is not a "set it and forget it" thing where they make it and it's done forever; it compounds the workload for every single piece of glam, every emote and job action animation, every hairstyle, every cutscene where the camera has to account for player height or if an NPC makes a unique quip regarding your race. Everything puts one more piece of straw on the camel's back. To be fair, that's true of a lot aspects of an ever-growing game like this, but in my opinion the ratio of "how much strain does this put on designers and graphic artists" versus "how much does this really make the game significantly better" does not present very good bang for your buck. Especially when it's apparently evident that they're really struggling with Viera and Hrothgar as is.

In another MMORPG where you're expected to play alt characters if you want to try different classes, new race choices make sense. In FFXIV, they are little more than a gimmick to sell Fantasias to a minority of players.
