wards take extra server space for all the dead space no one ever use. so add Instanced housing is by far more easy and effective. you just don't want all to have a house that all.
Another good middle ground would be sharding the wards [instance 1/2/3/etc of each ward] You enter the district to buy a house, it asks you which instance of which ward you want to enter. Four instances of each ward would increase the supply from 9k houses a server to 36k houses a server. Still not enough [cloud servers could fix that but it would take time] but significantly better than what we have. And for those who fear instancing the wards might mess up their houses, there is an Open Sim server that uses just such a method: Kitely. All of the information about their homes is saved to a database, when the ward is empty it shuts down [saving resources] and when it spins back up upon someone entering the database places all of their stuff in the proper place.

Yeah but the problem here is ultimately wanting to fix the core issue, not have these band aids.Another good middle ground would be sharding the wards [instance 1/2/3/etc of each ward] You enter the district to buy a house, it asks you which instance of which ward you want to enter. Lottery system is infinitely better than the old system but it was never meant to solve the housing crisis.
Yeah, this is just an idea for a temporary fix until cloud servers are a reality in truth.
Let me ask you? Do you LOVE island sanctuary? That's instance house vibe....so if next inspection SE just allows you to build a house just like current wards....will you be 100% satisfied? All current restrictions will remain, no marketboad etc.
Current Island Sanctuary vibe is not remotely a instance house vibe and I enjoy a lot about Island Sanctuary.
Now SWTOR is the perfect example of good instanced housing. They straight up WANT every player to have their own space they can call their own. And they're HUGE, with awesome decorating possibilities. I've said it before, but if FFXIV had SWTOR housing I would probably sub constantly (cue Emperor Palpatine ironic.gif)

Yes I am all for this idea, since the current system is not great. It’s not terrible by any means and I do enjoy my FC house and would not want to lose it but it could be a much better system. If you are so worried about players needing to work for houses why not put the ability to achieve it behind certain ranks in any given grand company (with small somewhere low, medium in the middle and larges behind champion rank). This way players have to earn it and work for their larges, and square would have a way to finish GC ranks with rewards that actually matter.
Also while i personally love to have my house on Island Sanctuary (since that would make entire island giant outdoors for my house and let use all outdoor slots, also being a great way to cap off island.) i recognise not everyone will like it, nor is it good idea to put out housing all the way to endwalker. So giving us just a small area where we can have our house is also great but it gives square another way to entice players to do content: background location. Wanna have a house on Carteneau Flats with dalamud in the sky? Run Binding Coils. Wanna have a house in Mhach or somewhere in the sea of clouds? Finish Heavensward alliance raids. Wanna have a house in elysium from omicron tribe quests? Finish those tribe quests. It would be a new type of reward for square to entice players with.
Also I just love how people can request all sorts of things on those forums from mounts and minions through reworking entire jobs to asking for new job quests and field operations like it’s no biggie. But ask for instanced housing and you suddenly “have to explain how square will make money” and “how much other content we are going to lose”. Also how “square earns money from people subbing to avoid demolition”. I want to remind you that demolition timers are essential for ward housing to work properly, so it was implemented. Not because square was greedy. And people who care so much about their houses(so fraction of people who own houses, so a fraction of a fraction of the entire playerbase) just adjusted to their situation.
For XIV it's called apartments. It's available for everyone from the get-go after the housing quest.Just look at every other MMORPG with housing. New World - Option to buy a house at first levels if you will just save money for it. People grind because they want to make it look better with crafting. And for them it's fun.
Elder scrolls online - Housing in first few levels completely for free with tons of types of furniture for real money like cash grab works well for them.
Because people have an open way to it.
Fallout 76 or whatever was that name. U can build their house in the few first hours of gameplay....
But FFXIV with the largest RP and social potential just lock it behind the RNG system with tons of in-game currency and grind.
And I can bet with you if they will make it open for everyone somehow and find a solution to this problem, advertise this game it's friendly to casuals who want to have pink carpets in their own house and play like they want with housing ....100% there will be thousands of players who will start playing it. Not even because there was not new Sims game after years and people like discover.
Also: The ESO freebie is a tavern room which is not that great, while in New World you have to pay property taxes for your house(s) to keep it functional or else it locks you out of them.

Yes but in ESO the way to acquire bigger houses (including the biggest houses ingame) is pretty much the same as tavern houses. You go there and pay for them. (also they give bigger houses for free with events)
