Marking bad players needs to stop

Thats a really childish thing to do. Dont take it too personal though, if its only happened twice in years and you arent routinely getting vote dismissed or into confrontations then you probably play just fine.

Also, dont beat yourself up when you really do screw up. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time, or has bad days, or just struggles with certain jobs, or has brain farts. I had 2 on my alt during an Alex raid yesterday (the one with the puddles). Co tanking a struggling group, forgot how to kick the bombs myself when nobody did it, had to take over as MT multiple times and then bombs thrown in dumb places, I die, and hit return home thinking it was a raise. Dumb stuff happens sometimes, but often its a team effort at the dumb dumb.

Create a macro that says "Please do not mark me for being bad. It has happened twice in the past 8 years, and it makes me feel absolutely terrible. Terrible enough, perhaps, to even quit the game. Thank you."

Use this macro at the beginning of every duty (and maybe again in the middle just to be safe) to ensure that such a terrible fate does not befall you again.

I've only ever seen it done by mediocre people in DF, never in the random savage PF groups I joined. Mark the loser with the same mark.

Don't feel bad if you mess up. That's how we learn. And we all have off days. Anyone getting their panties in a wad about it isn't worth your time.

I've heard about people doing that in pvp, but pve? Weird, lol. Not trying to invalidate your perspective, just never seen it happen. Maybe DC travel over to crystal next time you do roulettes. Everyone in our dutyfinder here is kinda bad anyway, so there'll at least be a hell of a lot less pressure at least.

Can't say I've ever come across this.

Most of my experience has been - If people notice someone is struggling, they'll usually jump over and over where it is safe, or they'll place a marker on their head and say "Follow me".

I would say if you get marked, don't be offended by it. If someone is vulgar, then maybe. But at the point of being offended by getting marked, it comes across as just seeking for a reason to be offended without that feeling actually being justified or rational for that matter.

You can say:

If you're good enough to notice that someone is bad, you're good enough to keep an eye on them without a visual aid. You will never convince me otherwise.

But you really need to keep in mind the distance between needing to use it, and it making things a whole lot easier. Sure, a really good player can, but a really good player can also do it to make their life easier, and potentially your life easier.

I've been playing since HW and this has only happened to me twice, but it's so incredibly rude and humiliating to literally put a sign on someone during a dungeon or an alliance raid of all things.

Never seen that except when someone wants everyone to follow them. But you should try and report them and specify the instance it happened in and what they marked you with and why you think they did it. Then if it is logged they might be warn them for it.

You're right. Most people don't notice someone doing something wrong by looking. They notice because of external aid. So you could mention that as your suspicion as well in the report.

It makes me want to quit the game entirely. So what to do?

I mean, I know how you feel. I have had a bunch of bad dungeon experiences, particularly when I was new to the game and hadn't cleared a lot of the dungeons, so they didn't understand I hadn't completed the map yet and therefore didn't know where to go.

Tanking used to have more nuances, so people would randomly insult over little things that don't really matter and then immediately exit the dungeon. Or I had a time where people abandoned a trial I needed to clear for the MSQ and had spent 40 minutes in queue for.

Experiences like this do make you want to quit the game, sure, but you get over them. The rules have also changed since then to be more generic, so that there aren't loopholes. Instead of saying "don't do this specific thing", they are extremely generic amounting to "don't be rude" and "don't hurt people's feelings". So if your feelings were hurt it's definitely a sign you should report them.

Unfortunately SE can't seem to understand that allowing blacklisted players to join you in PF is a bad thing.

They cannot join your PFs. But they can join a PF of someone else's that you happen to be in and vice versa because the person hosting the PF doesn't have them blacklisted. That isn't SE's fault. You won't see anything they say at least.

However, you can be matched with them in Duty Finder. I think they worry not being matched in Duty Finder would disrupt the search criteria too much. Either that or they are unaware due to the translation barrier.

I guess I just wanted to vent.

It does help to have a linkshell or discord where you can vent it a bit afterwards.
