character question: What jobs are canon to your character(s)?

My fragile Middie with zero muscle tone is from a noble Gridanian caster family. Her original canon job was Conjurer and her parents wanted her to become a White Mage but she's more of a free spirit who wanted more versatile magical powers. She's been a pro Red Mage for years, it's what she truly enjoys.

ooh nice nice! I can imagine becoming a white mage would be a whole ordeal given that in lore it is generally pretty restricted as to who can become one. Though, you do not need to follow in game lore.

How did you get that chocobo chest piece?

My main (started at Gridania): WHM, BRD, DRG, DRK, SMN (but not SCH)
My main alt (started at Ul'dah): PLD, SAM, RDM, MCH, SGE
My alt alt (started at Limsa Lominsa): NIN, DNC, WAR, SCH, ACN (not SMN, this is for the purpose of doing caster role quests)

During Shadowbringers, my main was the only one traveling to the first. My main alt helped with Werlyt and my alt alt helped with Bozja.

this is a really nice spread of jobs. Can ya tell me more about who each of ur characters are?

My previous main character, whom I've now retired after EW, went from WAR to DRK to ROG (don't worry, I was playing NIN... albeit badly) to SAM, while my current one is a PLD/WHM/DNC All-Rounder. My first alt is a GNB/RDM, while my neglected second started out a THM (BLM in-game, though I make a point not to play it because it scares me), then a PLD/AST/RPR All-Rounder, but is getting demoted to either AST/RPR or just RPR going into 7.0

I can tell you from experience, BLM is kinda fun when played on a basic level. It is easy to mess up its rotation- but as long as you remember it is about using fire IV as much as physically possible with an occasional flare and freeze you should be fine. You get triple cast too so movement at later levels isn't as much of a headache (you are essentially a turret with this job so movement is still something you want to minimize). It does take a bit to adjust to tho.
Can you tell me a bit more about each of your characters? Maybe a few fun facts, their name, and a small bit of lore?

After stowing away and fleeing Ul'Dah, my WoL became an arcanist and later a Scholar while trying to make a new life for themself in Limsa. They remained such until ShB where they gave up healing and started shooting things as a Machinist. Going in to EW they went the way of the Gunbreaker - most in part because it felt like a nice mix between the shields of scholar and the explosives of machinist.

I don't foresee them changing to a new job any time soon as they seem to be enjoying the ability to protect others.

Nice progression btw. Transitioning from machinist to gunbreaker (if I read that correct)- that is pretty cool! What do you think of gunbreaker at low level vs high level?

Paladin during ARR, Dark Knight after ARR permanently.

If I go and try to right in detail lore I'll sit for hours doing so lol

I have a feeling the job quests is probably a big part of this choice but that is mostly an assumption.

Primarily a White Mage, though has a strong leaning towards Summoner, Paladin, Warrior, and Monk.

I continue to view all other classes he's adept in as hobbies or community service, especially the other Gridania jobs/crafts given that remains his home town.

I have a new alt that I'm playing exclusively as a Gladiator RP wise. I don't really have the time to multi-level a second character, but since I did ARR nearly 10 years ago it's nice to remember what I pretty much forgot and have a new appreciation given I understand more about what is happening this time around.

oh yeah replaying the game on another alt has given me a deeper appreciation for ARR- especially the side content it offered.

Paladin & Bard

Paladin: From Foot Soldier to Templar Knight (whilst in Ishgard) & now a Holy Knight/ Free Paladin of the realm & beyond without allegiance to any major Nation but the Adventurer’s Guild.

Bard: Partially carries a small flute & though Vencio isn’t an Archer he learned a little of the musical/magical aetheretic components to help him sooth his thoughts as a means of therapy & comfort (No he does not carry a bow & isn’t fully a Bard/musician).

oh nice! Honestly have not seen any hint of therapy in this game yet (so many characters need therapy...) so glad to see someone make some form of it in game! So your character is a flute using paladin? Interesting. Have any of the other Templar Knights notice his flute when he was in Ishgard?

Mao is BLM. Mao dabbles little bits in WHM (to help others during overland adventures) and DRG (out of respect for Estinien whats Mao considers as Mao new Big Brother) buts Mao is first and foremost BLM. Mao was adopted when Mao was baby by Dragon Momma. Her tried raise Mao best she could but when long-eared soldiers came and attacked Mao dragon family and killed Mao Big Dragon Brother, Mao Dragon Momma knew her could not protect Mao forevers so Dragon Momma left Mao at entrance to Ul'Dah, hopings that some two-legger would take Mao in. Mao spent months as street-urchin tryings to survive in city. Then one day, when Mao gettings beat up by Hyur kids, some Lalas in black robes scared Hyur kids away and told Mao, "Come with us. We will teach you how to channel your hate." Mao considers Lalas to be wise and powerfuls.

Does Mao think of their old family when they summon flames?

Oh for sure. Definitely not as many as I play though. The jobs I have tied to my character's lore is SCH, NIN, SAM, DNC, and MNK. These also so happen to be the jobs I progressed the MSQ with in each expansion respectively.

Other jobs such as DRK and GNB are also Canon, but exist outside the MSQ. There really is no chronological order or specific time their quests take place, but also cannot happen after certain events make their mark in the MSQ. As an example, even though I just started leveling GNB, it's like I'm traveling back in time as the events that are involved in the quest line happen well before final clashes with Zenos and Endsinger.

oh for sure. I feel like if a character were to do as many jobs as there are in game they would have less time to really master each in their lore- proficiency would be a struggle despite talents.
can you clarify what you mean in that last paragraph?

Iyami started as an archer, dabbled in various jobs, and mostly settled in red mage, but still picks up a bow, gun, or giant sword depending on the adventure at hand.

What is she bias towards besides red mage?
