I agree they should be dyeable and open to all factions once earned. If they made faction ranks relevant again I wouldn't suggest it but since the ranks / grand companies have been left unused for so long I think it's time to unlock this gear for all.

Once you earn it/unlock it you should be able to wear it regardless.

Also, unless they changed it (I haven't checked in a while), retainers can't wear the gear either atm because they aren't part of a faction. Both restrictions are pretty annoying.

That kinda defeats the point of letting the player pick it. You're taking away that though minor level of agency from the player. Bad idea all around.

Why would it take anything away if you'd still have pick one to rep at a time?

I can already ride my Flames horse wearing full Flames armor while still fighting for Maelstrom during a match because the only content where it ever actually mattered forces freelancer anyway so it really doesn't matter who you picked.

I mean, that's already poor game design if you can. It's an irrelevant choice that barely affects things on a surface level. If I had to pick a player choice, that would be it. But it wouldn't be the first time these developers made a stupid choice like what you described.

It's been a really long time but I think originally you couldn't even play Frontlines with friends who were in other GC's, that was equally terrible. Freelancer used to be optional but eventually they forced it on everyone and it was kind of necessary to ensure Frontline matches kept popping decently fast.
I don't know how it was on other servers but on mine people would all join a specific Grand Company that was rumoured to have better players / better odds of winning, and so queues got longer and longer as the population in the other two GC's dwindled.

You'd still need to make a choice to join one Grand Company at a time to actually progress with them and work towards earning all the rewards, some of the achievements are quite lengthy so you'll be with them for a good while if you want to unlock everything, removing the restrictions just means everything you've earned doesn't get locked away as soon as you join a different GC.

Not Poor Game Design. Necessary Game Design.

You do realize how bad it is for pvp games with uneven participants on one side of a Military Excersise.

It ain't Balance or truly good.

    Hence why it was necessary.

Easy to tell when a player doesn't play PvP Casually enough to tell that clear point of why it is as so.
Or can't put 2 and 2 together without needing to PvP.

So the end result is, Character Story or Choice.
Which matters more some pushing of a mechanical idea where you feel the need to enforce a already archaic idea.

Or create somewhat off topic points for unknown reasons that just adds more merit to the main topic needing no locks in the first place.

Game needs to let players Glamour and Rep as they desire.

It's irrelevant to pvp in that regard. If it was that's bad game design. 3 teams is already mornic, but your GC choice mattering for that is ignorance.

The bad game design part figures into surface level stuff. I can't use my Gridanian saddle while I'm in the Limsa GC etc. That's fine to me in every way.

I generally don't care if we have Hogwarts houses and I don't care if that makes you upset.
