    Orchestrion and Orchestrion List Suggestions

I would love to have a portable orchestrion in FFXIV. I love the music in this game and I also collect orchestrion rolls. It would be nice to listen to them while traveling throughout the world, gathering or hunting or afking, instead of relying on Spotify on my PS4 which never has the most recent music anyway. Basically an MP3 or handheld radio for my character made up of only the orchestrion rolls I have, and it wouldn't change or turn off when I exit an area through any means unless I set it to do so. I'd understand if I couldn't have it in duties, too, but it'd be very nice if it would work there!

We have a "hide unobtained" toggle on the orchestrion roll list, so can we get a "hide obtained" toggle as well? It would help a ton with collecting! I have a fun time collecting everything, but it's a little annoying to see what new rolls were added that I'm now missing when I have most of the rolls. I'm very grateful that the orchestrion list mentions where you can obtain each roll regardless of whether you have it or not! This suggestion would, of course, ignore the section for rolls obtained from Mogstation.

Unfortunately due to how the music files work in the game they're unable to give us a portable orchestrion. I don't remember when Soken answered this question, but he did go into details that were too technical for me to remember. I guess they could put in a hide obtained toggle, but do we really need it now that we have the checkmarks?

Odd how "portable orchestrion" is basically just changing the music of FFXIV using the API of the game, something 3rd party plugin developers have dug up for at least two expansions. The only thing it would need is a restriction based on Orchestrion Rolls obtained, but they'd need to code that first - wait they already did, you can't play music inside inns that you haven't obtained.

FFXIV music file API + orchestrion list (with restrictions) = mobile orchestrion. Crazy.

That's because third party plugins take shortcuts to make things possible. It gets the job done but in lazy and possibly damaging ways. Officially supported tools they would like to have done professionally clean and fluently. Or more specifically, future proofed to not interfere with other things in the game. There's also possible licensing or other nontechnical reasons that could be preventing them doing such things. Not every barrier is code related. But if the devs think something would be difficult to do, then there's probably a hurdle that third party devs don't have to deal with that the main team has to be restricted with.

Devs and third party makers are not held by the same standards. Third Party tools will do anything and everything to make something possible. The actual official tools have to abide by certain standards and other possible cooperate related shenanigans. A common example is how devs say making outfits for all the races is difficult but third-party tools have accomplished the same thing. There is probably a perfectly logically explanation for these things that people tend to overlook or simply don't care. It's not a matter of it can't be done, but the methods that the developers want it to be done through are likely to complex.

If the difficulty of implementing it at a high quality standard has anything to do with law and regulation then sure, fair enough.

However if the process of implementing such features is difficult due to insisting on their way or the highway (unless they literally don't know any better) then I am frankly not amused. I am aware that outsourcing work is a huge no-no for japanese companies as well as employment laws being a pain in the neck, but honestly I wish we could do something for them.

It's how the BGM works especially for mounts as this request is mostly asked by those who want to listen to an orchestrion track while on a mount. You know how when you're in the Tempest or Ultima Thule Neath Dark Waters and Close in the Distance play almost no matter what you're doing? That's sort of how all of the zone music works. More so with mount music. Like I said Soken answered this around when Shadowbringers was coming out on how and why zone music and the orchestrion work the way they do.
