Maybe they can make Cleric Stance work exactly like Blue Mage's Basic Instinct, as in only being available while solo.I wouldn't hate that, since I'd actually be adding to the job's available actions instead of existing only to prune one half or the other at a time.
Though it would also seem jarring and painfully excessive.
First time in group instance: "Wait, what happened to my 20 attacks?"
I am not sure I like what this could potentially evolve to. Having parts of your kit only being available while solo seems like it might dangerously turn into "DPS actions are only available while solo" to ensure "healers actually heal".
Exactly my thoughts. If we look at tank stance for example, Square could have easily enabled it by default but it's entirely up to the tank to ensure that it's on when required. We've all be around in cases where it's either been forgotten (if we have been guilty of that ourselves), or it hasn't been toggled on when a main tank drops, etc- but parties usually accept that they will (if necessary) help the tank to ensure that it's used when required, if necessary. No one has essentially taken the approach of "tanks are too dumb to know how to use their stance".
This would be the equivalent. Again, I've seen a similar dps buff/ healing debuff used elsewhere in both solo and party use and parties weren't wiping. Somehow healers were intelligent enough to realize when to coordinate and concentrate on heals, when to cleanse debuffs and when to focus more on DPS.
There's already a problem in some (unlucky) Party Finder groups, a situation that usually requires more healing/rezzing due to the inconsistency of people, where your co-healer sometimes won't do anything beyond the basic minimum healing (if much! Sometimes I see shield healers not even caring to mit properly). I imagine this type of Cleric Stance would enable the 'selfish behavior' even more. This would be the equivalent. Again, I've seen a similar dps buff/ healing debuff used elsewhere in both solo and party use and parties weren't wiping. Not saying that I think it's a bad idea, but I wonder if there's any way to alleviate this situation for PF healers.
I think the solution is that SE needs to just grow a pair, and accept that some people will 'do it wrong'. I've long said that if SE made a class that did optimal damage (ie, the highest out of every class) by just pressing literally 111111111 over and over for the whole fight, there would still be a sizeable portion of the playerbase that 'does it wrong'. 'Not rolling GCD' is the number one cause of bad DPS and no amount of button removal is going to stop that from being the case.
SE should make an 'official' version of FFLOGS. Like Duty Recorder, everyone has to accept for it to be a 'competitive run' before pulling, and no matter how good or bad it goes, it gets logged. And a wipe counts as a 0, not 'it gets ignored'. Maybe then people will play more safe with healing
