What happened to the 8 years of data and market analysis?

Which is pretty much what any developer should do (and does). Request feedback to know what people want, and then take it into *very limited* consideration, while applying their own vision.
Game development (and development in general) has never been and should never be a democratic process.

They should ask us our opinion. They should listen to it and they should take it into consideration, but that is all. I am happy about how they react so far. They listen and think about things we said in the polls, but do not copy/paste it into the game without thinking about it.

I think when Tanaka made those indignant tweets about the fatigue system it was time for him to go.

Considering how much some websites actually completely warped reality and intentionally misinformed about the fatigue system (whether you or I like it or not), he really said nothing else than the truth.

Some sites spread some quite evidently intentional/sensationalistic misinformation, and they have been called on it. There's nothing wrong with that. I'd be much happier if more developers nailed bad reporters on the misinformative crap they write more often.

You know, it's kind of strange. Alot of the single-player Final Fantasy games find interesting ways to deviate from "the classic model" of Final Fantasy, but the MMOs of the franchise seem to have no real freedom...

Many devs use twitter to make that kind of comments nowadays. He was responding to people that asked him questions by the way.

There was no saving Tanaka. Even if he was the naive child with a toy while the adults destroyed everything, it was still on his watch.

He had what's coming to him, it was obvious. If you screw up, it's your fault, if the people under you screw up, it's your fault. If you and the people under you screw up, it's your fault.

We can only think that someone drugged him up, and put him in the office chair every day, with how FF14 turned out.

Tech demos are just that, they aren't games. I wish people would quit bringing that up. Anyone see the tech demo of FFVI characters in 3D for the N64? It was just a tech demo. Concepts the company is playing with. I think the financial situation rushed the game out. If you go back to release it was a very bad quarter for SE. They pushed out a Final Fantasy title so retail sales would bolster a horrible quarter and it worked. Retail sales of this game (before most people knew the state it was in) added a lot of revenue. They probably assumed they could finish/ polish a bare bones game on our dime with subscription fees. Classic business sacking long term well being for short term gain. But, that's in the past and I don't want to be negative.

I think this game needs Yoshida and SE needs him. He connects with the players, something SE has never been good at until this fiasco. That said, I think a lot of Tanaka's ideas were original and innovative. It just wasn't the right time for them and the rest of the game wasn't in place to support/ enjoy them. I like the game's new direction however, I just hope they get it out in a timely manner.

I'm not a fan of Tanaka from my FFXI days, but we really don't know all that went down so I don't think it is fair to characterize him that way.
