Yea, I just kind of wished the icons wouldn't all be the same lol.
My best guess would be that the old action icons can't be accessed by the macro system, but I've never actually tried before. If you remember the old names, you can give it a try. Just make a new macro with:
/macroicon "NAME OF SKILL BETWEEN THESE QUOTES"
Then put it on your bar and see if the icon appears. My guess is that it probably won't work, and that at best you'll end up with the grey, crossed-out version of the icon, similar to what you probably found on your actual hotbars immediately following the patch where these moves were removed. But I wish you luck and would love to hear how it goes!
The macro system allows you to use "※This action cannot be assigned to a hotbar" actions as icons. This worked! Thank you so much! The macro system allows you to use "※This action cannot be assigned to a hotbar" actions as icons. The /action to execute needs to be the action that can be assigned to your bar.

Macros send one line per frame so you can still buffer them by having a macro with the '/action <skill>' line repeated 14 or 15 times. At 30FPS it buffers them for ~0.4 seconds, at 60FPS it buffers them for ~0.2.
Also, mind your business.

Mostly true but more accurately you still lose up to 1/30 or 1/60 of a second with each macro execution, which is 0.017s or 0.03s. These are imperceptible delays to humans in immediate contexts but it's worth noting that 0.03s is longer than the drop in GCD time from a single accessory with Speed as the minor stat (0.02s) and I do feel the very real differences between 2.45, 2.48, and 2.50s GCDs in my RDM rotation execution over the course of a fight because my movement windows will shift by about 1.0s for every two minutes in combat.
The typical player user will probably find this loss acceptable in most macro contexts.
