Square really has to figure out a middle ground for Dungeons and Alliance Raids.

After having done the new Alliance Raid a few times I am heavily dissapointed in how tone deaf Square is in their tuning. Of all the times I did it, we defeated the bosses a bit after the tutorialization of their set pieces mechanics, that should NOT be possible on content added a literal day ago.

This feels like the polar opposite to the Nier raids that are HP sponges, I understand casual players may struggle in this, but I think more often than not, there's more veteran players in this type of content than casuals, and how are the less skilled players ever going to learn if the boss is defeated just after being taught to move middle, and then to the sides without the overlapping of another mechanic.

My suggestion would be making this type of content work on % and not on a timeline, DPS too good? skip one of the tutorial repeats (no idea why they really like to put TWO variations of the tutorial mechanics at the start) and get into the interesting overlapping mechanics. DPS too low? have the tutorial mechanics repeat once more, and then the less skilled players may be able to figure them out.

I think you're expecting more from the Alliance raids than SE intends. Alliance is casual story mode raiding. It's supposed to have an easy learning curve because wiping over and over with a group of random strangers is not fun to most players.

Yea but mechanics like thaliak combing the zodiark turn with a half room cleave or nymeia activating a card when she does the triple water blowback with athylk also speeds up one of the water’s and then does the greataxe at the end shows that they have a decent difficulty planned for the alliance raids we just never see it because they spend too long in their own tutorial

It’s not so much make them harder as in give them more mechanics, just cut out the bloated tutorial phases

It's still better than forcing everyone to do a tutorial every time they enter the raid, in my opinion. I'm also going to argue the dungeon bosses and Trial of this patch have far more interesting mechanics than the Myth raid bosses and that's just sad.

Going from one extreme to the other. It's either fall asleep or "wiping over and over". True. Because there is only Ninja Gaiden and Kirby games out there as well on the single player market. lol

Can you imagine doing CT raids if the bosses only had a timeline and not %hp patterns? We would never see Meteor, Ancient Flare, Curtain Call, Xande's Meteors, or the Clouds phase ever again.

Maybe they're realizing this and that's why we have a return to form in the most recent MSQ (last place this happened was in The Dalraida).

The tutorial phases are definitely far too long, especially because we have had an extra month of patch time to gear up for new content, AND the gear drops in Savage have been less costly and less likely to be useless with the changes there.

But also, % HP phases are tougher to design around now that all the jobs synergize so well every 2 min; damage output is very uneven so they'd have to work much harder to plan %s for the boss to introduce new wrinkles than previously.

The Ivalice Raids were the perfect middle ground for difficulty. These are RAIDS, not tutorials, not story moments, raids. A raid is supposed to be difficult. Myths of the Realm is fun but far far far too easy.

Return to Wiping City of Mhach days. Those were great because of the challenge of doing group mechanics by individual raid. I’d love to see that design philosophy again.
