Perhaps you lived a privileged life in that regard, but some of us grew up without any idols or people to look after in media (especially when raised by very conservative people), together with suffering all sorts of violence, even from within our families. That's exactly why representation is important.I am bisexual, and I dont need/want to be represented
Am I doing it wrong ?
Why do NPC's in a video game have to be the same sexuality as me ? Does it matter ? Is it going to change my life ?
No it wont, I quite literally dont care.
I dont need people to "confirm" my sexual identity, I am bi, I know it, I dont need the entire world to adjust to my sexuality.
I constantly see variations of the expression "it should happen when it makes sense". But when it would make sense? If sexuality shouldn't matter, then what's the paramenter to decide between what kind of relationship is portrayed when one is due to appear? This applies to any kind of minority being represented.

Forced representation is not good and it is disingenuous. Allow it to come naturally through the sequence of events that follow in the story, or allow the hunts to be subtle and interpretive, or don't have it happen at all, IMO
It shouldn't really feel forced into the story., subtleties such as that with the Steadfast Companion and the Blundering Treasure Hunter are nice, as is the Rising vendor NPC. - They shouldn't need to force it on peoples' faces because bothering to learn about the world and its inhabitants is too difficult.

When it's subtle you get people arguing you're reading too much into it, when it's not, people completely lose their minds over "forced representation". There truly is no winning with some of you...
Glamour without restrictions* is long overdue!
If you think so too, help keep the thread going!

All of this imo, people just want to force it in the game and that's the problem with it, it should really just "happen out of the blue" instead of being put in just for the sake of it.Forced representation is not good and it is disingenuous. Demanding representation is a big sign of leading a privileged life though...Perhaps you lived a privileged life in that regard, but some of us grew up without any idols or people to look after in media (especially when raised by very conservative people), together with suffering all sorts of violence, even from within our families. Diversity and inclusivity are very important core values here at the Weeaboo Police Department. That is why we have established a hiring policy that does not discriminate against any of our applicants based on their race, gender, or sexual orientation.
Keep the wind in your sails.
I remember when I used to ship characters like this. I was young and spry. Then I got older and realized men can have a friendly rivalry without them wanting to hold hands.
I haven't played XVI, but that sounds a lot like what they did with Emil and Kaine in the first Nier, you can pick on the signals here and there, yet, that's not who they are. Emil's kindness and care for his friends is what make him such a endearing character, and Kaine's strong and sometimes harsh attitude while still being obviously caring is what made her such a memorable character. The best thing about Dion isn't that he was a gay man who was major character.
It's that him not being gay wouldn't really detract from his character or his story at all. He's a complete character on his own merits who just happens to have a boyfriend instead of a girlfriend or nobody at all. (Terrence being his first in command and a commoner is what makes the relationship something they need to keep a secret, not necessarily the fact that Terrence is a hunky dude. Dion has good taste though.)
I'm so glad they made a character who was integral to the plot and had his sexuality simply be a factoid about him, rather than having it be his whole personality. He's not cartoonishly foppish, and he doesn't hit on every other male character in the game. He doesn't go "ew women" or avoid them. He doesn't introduce himself to people as "Prince Dion, and btw I really like men."
If any character in Dawntrailer is LGBTQ, I hope they're treated with that same level of respect. "Gay" shouldn't be the primary defining trait of a well written character.
