Will Dawntrail Surprise Us With A Major LGBTQ+ Character In The MSQ

The best thing about Dion isn't that he was a gay man who was major character.

It's that him not being gay wouldn't really detract from his character or his story at all. He's a complete character on his own merits who just happens to have a boyfriend instead of a girlfriend or nobody at all. (Terrence being his first in command and a commoner is what makes the relationship something they need to keep a secret, not necessarily the fact that Terrence is a hunky dude. Dion has good taste though.)

I'm so glad they made a character who was integral to the plot and had his sexuality simply be a factoid about him, rather than having it be his whole personality. He's not cartoonishly foppish, and he doesn't hit on every other male character in the game. He doesn't go "ew women" or avoid them. He doesn't introduce himself to people as "Prince Dion, and btw I really like men."

If any character in Dawntrailer is LGBTQ, I hope they're treated with that same level of respect. "Gay" shouldn't be the primary defining trait of a well written character.

If you chose a class in ul'dah, Thancred kinda flirts with your character regardless of sex. Just reminding some people if they've forgotten.

On a more serious note, I can understand that certain people want more representation in mainstream media, but the bigger thing has to be that the media is good first not their sexual orientation/race/etc then the story. If a character is good, then you can craft their backstory however you like. Plus doesn't Emet kinda fit the bill....? They dont flat out make it clear in the game (nor do I believe they should do that for any character outside of their back story tbh), but you can kind of elude to it (and he's personally one of my favorite characters tbh).

It's always funny seeing people get upset about 'pandering' when AAA Video Games are media constructs created entirely to pander for money. They're a product designed to sell.

We're already playing a comfort-character simulator, where the main cast barely receive any meaningful character development and are invincible for fear of alienating their associated fandoms. Another shoehorned, shallow character for a new audience would fit right in.

I'll never understand the trend of "if you are friends and have the same sex, you are in love". Gaia and Ryne don't act around each other as girls with a crush, Ryne genuinely wants to help Gaia become a better person and Gaia seems genuinely happy to have made a friend. Wasn't Gaia's whole transformation into a boobie tree come from her past life wanting to be reunited with her lover frozen in time? I'm pretty sure Mitron dies with Gaia hoping they can eventually reunite in other life.

The rainbow crystal thing was a stretch, and the FFVIII ending reference is just SE queerbaiting. Gaia has as much narrative impact as Alpha does nowadays.

If you told me someone should've stopped the devs from making a 17yo undressing a Raid boss mechanic (and phase transition, in E8S) then, yeah, I absolutely agree, but here we are... I think that's an important point to remember. Certain scenes and characters are honestly translated differently (sometimes rewritten) based on region (Haurchefant comes to mind with his character being written different in the NA version compared to the JP version).
