I'm pretty tired of people suggesting this. For starters, you're not guaranteed a house that way, except maybe a small. And I put in the time to have enough gil to buy any size house I want. Why should I be expected to leave my FC and friends to get it?

Then that's a you problem because I did just that leaving Exodus for Seraph and now I enjoy my own personal P60 W14 mansion in Shiro and I don't have issues traveling back and forth to Exodus to link up and play with my friends there. No one is forcing you to stay there, you choose to be in misery with less plots that open up compared to Dynamis that will soon have a surge of players once XBOX joins the game. And before you say that you don't have friends in Dynamis, then that's also your fault for not taking the time to plan ahead and invite them, I have my friends from Exodus visit my home and we lounge around just chatting and they don't have issues traveling from Exodus and vice versa. You're acting like you have to drive out of town and go to an airport and travel across an ocean to do so. So I'm sorry if I sound blunt but I don't pity those that repeat the same tired rants, especially from congested worlds when the solution is already there. Even on Seraph, it's normal to see at least a dozen mediums open up for bidding each cycle and even mansions often too.

And wait until you try to DC travel and it glitches on you and you get locked out of the game for an entire day. My comment was addressed to someone who has been unable to get any house because they've chosen to have their character on the most congested world in the game. You at least have a house where they can't get one.

Moving to a different data center isn't leaving anyone. It takes all of one minute to data center travel 95% of the time. While true you wouldn't be able to stay in the FC, that shouldn't stop you from being able to do things with your FC if they're a decent group of people. If that one minute to data center travel causes that FC and those friends to cut you off, then I'd say you're better off without that FC and those people you thought were friends never were.

I agree it shouldn't come to transferring a character for any player to get a house. I've been pushing for SE to change the housing system as much as the next player. Any MMORPG is going to have a hard time meeting my gold standard for what a housing system should be (RIFT's Dimensions).

But until SE makes a change so all this drama over the bad system can be left in the past, we have to make due with what the system is. For those who do not currently have a house, there are available plots out there if they are willing to be on the worlds with them.

It's unfortunate that the housing system is communicated so poorly to players when they're first learning about it. I've seen so many people thinking that if they just get enough money to buy a house, they can get one. Then they finally get the money and think they're at the finish line, only to slam face-first into the reality that they haven't even started the race yet. Definitely a bummer.

I mentioned several times in the past that I'd like to see SE update the "Where the Heart Is..." quests to represent the system as it currently exists and not what it was back in 2.4.

About the only plots that had any competition that first lottery when the data center opened were Mist 5/35, Shiro 30/60 and LB 11/41.

Is there competition now? Yes, because it's 10 months later and those that could only afford a small or medium when they first transferred are now able to afford mediums and larges.

Will there be competition when SE finally chooses to open the last 6 wards for purchase? It's hard to say, to be honest. That's going to be an additional 180 larges and 420 mediums per world becoming available all at the same time. Right now there's not very much competition for them. Marilith had 1 large available in this current lottery period that only had 35 bidders.

I'm not concerned with what could have happened a year ago. The absolute fact right now is that winning a medium or large on Dynamis is NOT a guarantee, and people need to quit saying it is.

That wasn't me trying to say it's easy to get a large right now. It was a comparison to the number of larges that will eventually become available when SE chooses to open the last 6 wards that are still locked on the new worlds added last year. If there are only about 35-40 players actively pursuing larges on Marilith, that may mean over 100 larges with no competition of any sort when those wards finally open (depending on how long the wait is). That's going to be repeated on Maduin and Halicarnassus (Seraph will probably have competition for the larges that would open there).

As a developer, this is me taking an educated guess. Since they are going to experiment with hybrid solution of partial physical server and partial cloud, there are a lot of aspects of this game that don't need a dedicated server. Housing would be a perfect use case for something that can be auto scaled, and does not require a lot of dedicated resources like other aspects (such as combat) would. Perhaps if the test goes well, we'll see things shift towards that without the end user even noticing (which is always ideal from a user experience) other than making a lot of people happy when you fix an issue of this magnitude.

No one should have to transfer data servers for a house. Yes there is "dead" servers out there that have real-estate available, but that puts more limitations on you.

I like being on my server, and I want a house in my server. All my friends are on my server, as well as my FC. I'd have to leave all of that and use the visitation system just because I wanted a house... that doesn't sit right at all.

As for new players, there is literally nothing discouraging them. New players aren't going to be able to afford a house anyway, and if they did, they would be in the SAME system as anyone else. Didn't get it this week? Try again next week with a % higher chance to get selected because you missed out last time. The % keeps going up and up until you get selected, and yes, I think it would be a good idea to remove this % if you forget to bid a week. This doesn't mean it'd be impossible for new bidders.

For the people who are absolutely dedicated to bidding EVERY SINGLE WEEK, and getting crushed that they lost, they SHOULD have a priority for the next time. Regardless of how off-putting it might be for "newcomers", it will still EVENTUALLY guarantee them a housing slot, where as of right now, with this current system, their chances are close to never.

I think it would be cool if they introduced some sort of priority system. My idea is some sort of reverse system where the more you cry about it the less likely you are to get a house.
