I find it hilarious that WoW got sh!t for their last patch cycle in Mist of Pandaria (14 Monts) Warlords of Draenor, Legion (Rightfully so) and yet FFXIV folks are fine with a 6 month + wait between last patch and the next expansion.

Coming from WoW myself, I'm happy with the wait times we have here. There, just nowadays with Dragonflight they kind of matched XIV's pace with a content patch/sub-patch roughly every 2 months. Still, from Shadowlands' last content patch to Dragonflight launch it was almost one year of wait iirc, a lot longer than the estimated time for a Summer Dawntrail release.
I think in WoW there's the benefit of a PTR (or Beta during pre-xpac wait times) up almost all the time with stuff to datamine/speculate, class changes to theorycraft/complain/praise, etc, although you have to be super careful not to spoil story elements. In XIV we basically just have what's given in interviews, PLL or Fanfests.
