You really posted a take (that you seem to agree with) that was so horrendous that it even got dunked on in the main subreddit lmao?

Mainsub has been strangely receptive to the lack of content argument recently
Besides big booba and “oh my god I just reached ishgard best game ever” these cycling arguments are some of the most popular and upvoted arguments there right now
It almost feels unnatural
I am always behind taking a break from anything if it doesn’t interest you anymore. I take monthly breaks from FF14. If I didn’t, I think I’d burnout to not log in.
I still have so much to do in the game, but it can get overwhelming.
Oh wow. Reddit progressed a little. I thought it used to be: "oh my god I just created a char and took my first screenshot best game ever. #upvoteme"
The optimist in me wants to say Reddit Progressed. The pessimist in me thinks it's just the flavor of the month because the streamers are advertising this opinion, and we know Reddit is mostly influenced by them.
99.99% chance probably a Titanman alt
The issue isn't that the take is horrendous. The concept is actually good. It's just being misused.
It's very true that some people spend an enormous amount of time on games and burn through content, or burn out. That's just not the case here. The majority of content provided in the EW patches has had an incredibly short lifespan and has been genuinely unengaging.
Do we have to engage with something to benefit from it? Look at Duty Support. That will attract new players to our game and new players are needed with any MMO. And the streamlining of tells means that we'll get new players who understand what the red tankbuster marker means, or how to handle stack markers. Which will make our time in roulette with them smoother and more productive. I don't really care too much about how pretty my game is so I'm not going to benefit directly much from the graphical upgrade. I'm actually on the opposite end because I need to upgrade my PC now. But that may bring in more players who care about that sort of thing, or retain players who really wanted to see something new there. We don't always have to engage directly with something for it to be beneficial toward the future of the game. Not quite. If Yoshida announced tomorrow they could completely overhaul the graphics to make the game look like Black Desert or that we could have a much more robust character creator but it would cost us a patch of content, you'd probably see much less of a vitriolic response. Endwalker spent a significant amount of time overhauling content the vast majority of us will never engage with. Which meant we possibly lost content without any direct benefit. And I say possibly because we don't actually know whether the whole Trust system and dungeon overhaul truly impacted EW's development. After all, would Island Sanctuary suddenly not be a sweatshop simulator if those aforementioned overhauls didn't happen?
Not to mention, QoL features shouldn't impact content longevity. It isn't exactly hard to toss in some meaningful rewards so Criterion isn't dead on arrival.
I agree they could have put more rewards for Criterion, but even that would eventually die once people had what they wanted. I've seen people mention here even some less-popular 8 man raid series or alliance raid series are hard to get through. The only real thing SE has managed to keep constantly populated is roulettes and that's because they always have an everchanging tomestone reward tied to them. I don't think they'll ever solve the issue of some content dying out after the initial rush of players getting their rewards from it. The best they can do is try to future-proof that content so it's still accessible when things have died down.
On the flip side what is bringing in new players going to do when you still have the mammoth wall of the MSQ to get through and a cratering endgame playerbase so you don’t even know what’s going to be able to be done when you reach endgameDo we have to engage with something to benefit from it? Having new players is good, having a constant flow of new players that cycle out as soon as they reach endgame is not
This take , like many on the internet, is horse poop. What you have to understand when you make a condescending post about any group of people is not only that those people are not a monolith but also that many people don't know how to properly express themselves in the first place. Is it REALLY that people have run out of things to do? Are they perhaps lacking direction? Is something preventing them from trying a game mode they may otherwise try? Is this game just kind of dated and some of the content is not "not there" but simply not worth doing more than a handful of times? People are often not specific with their grievances and boil it down to a simple expression like "there's nothing to do". And if you're going to bother tying up condescending essays you might as well spend that time maybe asking questions and listening to other ideas. Some things in XIV are simply outdated, not motivational, boring, etc rather than outright nonexistent.
We all need to start being honest and just admit that outside Ultimates and some Savage content, the game is just meant to be a solo player job themepark where you face roll almost everything in the name of the top tier MSQ. The world isn't fun and the reliance on roulette is mind numingly boring. Most job gameplay has been steamrolled. XIV put simply is anti risk in nearly every sense of the word. And the game just keeps going deeper in this direction..don't work hard at anything, don't work with other players, just stay in your instanced island sanctuary...

And that's exactly why both FFXIV and FFXVI are failing to hit the right notes with some people. No matter how much I may love (or in FFXIV's case, loved) both games it feels as if both are slowly being poisoned and withering right before my eyes. This isn't what I wanted in the slightest, but no suggestion regardless of how well mannered or well said seems to have been taken seriously. They have chosen the path of appeasing to the non-MMO player crowd and now what we have is an isolated experience of a game that feels permanently locked to easy mode.
