It's really simple: the 'lifespan' has nothing to do with how I value my time, my money, or a game. I look to get a minimum entertainment value for a given amount of money and everything past that is icing. Could things be better? Sure. But I'm still getting my value right now. If I wasn't, I'd leave.
But also, you do realize that literally the most impactful thing you can do to express your discontent is to stop paying, right? A drop on the retention metrics is worth more than the entire forum's worth of posts.
Or, to quote the wise prophet Eminem: Talk is cheap. If you really feelin' froggish, leap.
I have been here entirely too long to extend that level of faith. No, there are most certainly people around here who expect the game to provide them an infinite well of content.

Hey kids did you know today I learned that wanting content that takes longer to finish than it takes me to navigate to mogstation to find the resub button is actually asking asking for an infinite wellspring of contentIt's really simple: the 'lifespan' has nothing to do with how I value my time, my money, or a game. So glad I could have this horrible misconception of mine cleared up by a generous forum poster
I'm not the one who asked what 'playing other games' achieves. You set yourself up for that one.
Who? Where? I post here frequently and I have yet to see anyone declare in all seriousness that they're expecting the game to entertain them every hour of every day.
In fact, it's something I've commented on many times before so I'll just resort to quoting myself:
As has been pointed out many times already, a lot of players with concerns about FFXIV are playing other games and aren't looking to be entertained by one specific game 24/7.
They're simply recognising that less and less content is being designed with staying power in mind and that even after taking breaks they're returning to see that elements of the game they enjoy are being taken away for the sake of those who do little but idle in cities and player houses whilst heavily altering the game and their character to be utterly unrecognisable as 'FFXIV.'I've yet to see where people are actually asking for content to keep them entertained 24/7. Many people are already taking breaks and playing other games only to come back to FFXIV and find that it isn't adding anything with much in the way of staying power.
It isn't rocket science and it's honestly disappointing to see people deceptively try to frame the concerns and criticism as something entirely different to what it is.
The game has tipped too far in the direction of appeasing those who don't even play the game but instead idle and attend 'venues'. Given that such an approach comes at the expense of content with staying power such as Bozja, Eureka and Ishgard Reconstruction it isn't difficult to see why concerns are being raised.
There's an answer there, you just don't accept it. Nothing I can do about that.
Leaving aside the fact that you could probably actually find that statement around here if you looked enough - it's usually not an overtly stated desire, but something that arises as a natural consequence from people who play really high weekly hours and eventually drink the well dry of what they're interested in. When that becomes your natural state, you don't necessarily realize that you're asking for something unrealistic.
Not saying that's necessarily what's happening here, or even a particularly common thing. (Like you say - "very few", though we might disagree on how few that is - but not zero.) Just that it absolutely occurs, and it absolutely occurs here.
It's in-fact not even remotely what's happening - Because anyone with a brain knows it's just not even feasible in EW. This is a strawman created to silence anyone asking for literal breadcrumbs of content that isn't Raid. Anyone that doesn't find AFKing or Raid fun only really get a few hours of content to do every patch cycle. Then we just stop playing. It's no longer worth a sub.
There's a major disconnect with players looking for non-committal engaging activities post-MSQ, and people that Raid.
If you Raid, and find that there's enough content to do overall - Then that's great for the 5%, but I believe you may be one of those players that's out of touch with the needs of the many.
