Zepla: Endwalker is the Worst FFXIV Expansion I have played

I think, if you only started playing up to or after Endwalker launch, you might not be the target audience for the video or this topic discussion. The game is good. Great, in fact, there are thousands and thousands of hours of content to keep you occupied.

I'm pretty sure Zepla's video is expressing the thoughts and opinions specifically of someone who's been playing the game for several years. When you've done all the older content, you want to keep occupied with the new stuff; and unfortunately, Endwalker just doesn't deliver as well as previous expansions. It's not bad, it's just not good either.

The issue is you're not going to be new forever, and it is not uncommon for newer players to ask of more experienced ones where the game currently is sitting once you hit max level (partly to find out if it's worth investing the time), not to mention you may well be in a FC with them and notice they're not on as much as before.

At the moment their formula seems to be working for them but I don't think it can work indefinitely, especially now that a lot of the hype surrounding EW is gone and SHB is in the past. And with the long gap until DT and the time between patches, sprouts won't be sprouts forever.

Basically I don't disagree with what you're saying but I believe forward-looking newer players might grow concerned as well.

But the name of her video isn't "Endwalker is the Worst FFXIV Expansion." It's "Endwalker is the Worst FFXIV Expansion I have played." Right from the beginning, she's very clear that her video is about her perspective and her opinion. And to my knowledge, the majority of her video is very 'criticism sandwich' where she points out the good and the bad. Using words like "worst expansion" should not muddy the water when its very transparent about being an opinion piece even from the title.

She could have used a title like "My Feelings about Endwalker" and avoided the drama altogether. The title used sets the impressions she's going to go on a rant about how terrible the game is and there are plenty of people out there who are going to use it as such regardless of what she says in the video.

Using a borderline clickbait title like that might get her more views but it also generates more misconceptions and controversy.

That's going to depend on what sort of gaming background the new player is coming from.

I'll chat with new players on occasion. Unless they're coming from a WoW or some sort of competitive game that is end game focused, they don't want to talk about end game. They want to talk what they've already experience and if there's something they might have missed that they should know about.

Why does someone need to use gentle language to express their opinions though? If it's been the worst expansion she's experienced, why is it a crime for her to say that? It's also not a rant. With nearly every discussion point, she talks about the positives before talking about the negatives. That is literally the definition of appropriate and healthy criticism.

The same people would have zero problems if EW was their best expansion ever

I think its society in general that's fragile and sensitive and take things way to personal even criticism over there favorite things. Everything has to get censored so people don't potentially feel attacked.

Because it's an opinion they disagree with.

The goalposts will be moved infinitely no matter how criticism is worded here; Someone could be as gentle and positive as humanly possible, and they would just move the goal posts further and accuse the person of being patronizing or sarcastic.

They aren't genuinely concerned about the tone of the criticism; It's just a bad faith tactic to try undermine a message they don't agree with.

I tend to dislike "influencers" "content creators" and whatever other names they are called for one reason or another, but I never imagined Zepla of all of them would bring up criticisms given her approach to the game.

Good to see someone with an audience that Yoshida has admitted to watching on occasion actually bring up constructive criticism and some of the long standing issues this game has. She's likely lost her place on the media tour but better in the long run if its acted upon.


also good on you folks, i gradually went through all 87 pages today waiting for a call from work. Reading certain people get, repeatedly, put in their place for whining and trolling and gaslighting was quite amusing. Its notable how the ones getting upvotes were the ones that had valid criticism, evidence and refuted bad faith arguments/entitled whinings while the people that need to get their heads out their arses were the ones without any
