I'm surprised that the store let you buy it for a character that already completed the story. They started to crack down on that type of thing. The skips aren't meant to be a workaround for the parts that you don't enjoy if you've already done the whole MSQ for that expansion. You can't skip something that you have already done. It's meant to be a catch up. The aether currents being done is probably part of a story skip as an assumption that you would have gone and gotten them while going through 5.0.

I don't think the store is linked in anyway to be able to tell if you already have completed/used items from it, so it's not really a surprise it doesn't prevent purchasing something you can't use. It does have a large section right under the Buy buttons that has all conditions for it's use, so it's on the buyer to be sure they can actually use it.

They just recently will not allow you to buy orchestrion and mounts that you already own. It happened around the time they put in the gifting changes so it does have that capability in some form. Even still it is as you said it is on the buyer to make sure the item is being sent to the correct character if you have more than one. Or that you are buying something you can use on that character.

This I did not know. I so rarely go to the store since I tend to have bad willpower to prevent myself from spending when it's things that are stupidly easy to buy...so I just don't go there often except for sales to see if I really want something.
