The thing is, 16 is literally a carbon copy of 14's RR story just told in a different way. Rather than Ultima absorbing all the eikons, we do.

I mean, this is just the plot of every FF game going back to like.... FF4 with Rydia. The PC summoners in XI absorbed a power of the summons. So did Yuna in her temple trials. So did Noctis in the tests the gods gave him.

Pretty sure the summoner class in almost every game where it exists has to undergo some kind of trial to obtain the power over that summons, whether it's absorbing part of the power or just getting a handy materia drop.

I think some of the issues I and others are having is really just due to burn out, which happens after you've been playing something or 10 or so years. FFXIV does have a fairly rigid formula and the core of the game doesn't change, so the things that we have been doing the most of, such as roulettes and other combat activities, have been largely unchanged in all that time. Even Eureka and Bozja were using the same jobs and abilities just in a new setting, so no they did not drastically changed the moment to moment action just gave a new arena to do it in. Honestly I am not sure of any MMO that has kept players for 10 or more years consistently, other than maybe WoW but they were considered the only game in town for a long time overshadowing any competition and preventing real growth in other titles. They also made drastic changes in each expansion which sometimes were disastrous and other times great improvements, but it did create lots of new experiences each expansion.
