That would cover the NM side of it, so if we could:Know what I'd really like in addition to the spirit bound? Once you're done you have a one versus one fight with something like with Maat (Yes I'm sorry I used a FFXI example ;_. One versus one battles are just neat sometimes specially when it's something as personal as a job specific weapon. That and kiting tactics are getting tedious.
Spirit Bond >
>Perhaps create a quest line tied with job quests in which certain difficult targets (Such as new or old NMs and primals) must be slain with your AF weapon, each one adding a modifier. Killing all of the targets would grant you the weapon's full potential. Perhaps every weapon's quest line could require different mobs, and maybe they all end with a battle against Odin
One on One battle against a master of [job] rather than always facing Odin...

O h s n a p. Bring back rock/paper/scissors for quests! that was the best.... /hate!
Allright!
mmkay...i like want the option to dual-wield 2x Box-Turtles, possibly as AF H2H weapons.
You know...if we had Triple Triad cards we could refine into, say, AF upgrade items....
I highly doubt it would be anything even resembling this, but they could do trials based off each class. For example, whm has to heal so much HP with enmity on an enemy, for each level. Pld has to block so many attacks. Mnk and/or Drg have to use so many combos. If they could think up something interesting it would be nice, but no matter what it will be, people will grind it and they will complain.
Taking from this basic idea an idea popped into my head. Perhaps AF weapons could take on the soul of other weapons to empower itself, but the amount of souls it can hold would be based on your own bond with the AF weapon.
Any weapon of the same type so basically it would start off like this, each AF weapon would be able to have up to 3 soul slots however each one would be different.
Basic slot which is the first one you get would be able to hold any weapon soul that is crafted.
Exclusive Slot would be able to hold any basic as well as unique weapon souls/ weapons dropped off mobs.
Primal Slot would be able to hold any of the above as well as the soul of a Primal Weapon aka Moogle/Ifrit/Garuda
Each Soul would have a number next to it which would be the amount of points it uses to attune to the weapon.
So Ifrit could be 15 souls, Moogle 16 souls and Garuda 18 souls. Then let's say 3 Exclusive weapons at 6/8/10, and then the Basic weapons are 4/4/7.
Now when you first get the ancient axe it would have the basic slot and only 1 soul point. So you would only be able to attune the weakest of souls to it. Each time you max out the spiritbond you obtain 1 spirit point for the weapon which is the point system used to exchange for powerups for you weapon. Exclusive/Primal slot can't be unlocked until a quest is completed however your weapon needs a certain Soul lv in order to take on the quest. So let's say it looks like
Soul Level 1, Soul Capacity 0/1
As it stands now the only thing I can see spirits being exchanged for are to increase Soul capacity as well as unlock the two slots once they are gained.
So to obtain Soul Capacity 2-10 you would need 1 spirit each. From 11-20 it would take 2 spirits each, 21-30 3 spirits. to whatever the cap may be.
Exclusive Slot quest would be at Soul Level 10 and Primal would be 30. Then to obtain the Exlusive slot you would need 10 spirit points and 30 for the Primal one.
So basically now you need souls to put on your weapon to obtain these you would use weapons until you spritbond with them, rather then turn them into materia you turn them into souls that you can attach to your AF weapons.
So let's just say the cap for an AF weapon was 30 souls points. and you had all the slots unlocked.
Basic====
Exclusive=
Primal===
Craft items lv 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 weapons, 2, 4, 7, 10, 15, 20
Primal, Ifrit/20, Moogle/20, Garuda/25
Exclusive, 10, 20, 25
Then from those 18 weapons you can mix and match but of course with the limitations that Primal can only be on one slot and exclusive in 2 while craft could go in all 3 slots if one wished it
But ya the basic idea above is to make it where crafters won't be kicked to the side with the release of AF weapons and in fact they will be able to assist in producing weapons which can turn into souls that the Fighter can attach to their weapon.

No matter what they come up with there will be unhappy whiny people and happy shiny people.I highly doubt it would be anything even resembling this, but they could do trials based off each class. I hope that they do not base it on something that is "luck/chance" based though, not to bash the idea of blocking so many attacks, but there'd be no good way to make this an nearly-equal diffuculty task for all players due to the randomness of blocks.

So at the end of what would be a rather long process, not a bad thing imo, everyone could potentially have a different AF weapon? Or would the effects be the same no matter what you bound to each slot?Taking from this basic idea an idea popped into my head. Whatever it is its going to have some kind of grind element to it because they talked about balancing how long it takes.
