I really didn’t like the idea of being “just an adventurer” but how they presented it, I’m ok with it now.The news had me pretty excited, especially with the thought of a possible new dex melee and caster. For years, I wanted to return to just being an adventurer. Exploring and discovering new locations and meeting new tribes in the world. To be put some place where I don't feel all powerful.
I thought this fanfest was going to break me and finally make me unsub, but I guess I have to hold out for the next one. Maybe do an ultimate in the meantime or something.
I was also leaning into the make or break camp with the expansion but all of the themes shown in the trailer were exactly what I needed but didn’t know I wanted.
My problem is the narrative itself. Spoilers for the entire MSQ up to and including EndwalkerAfter seeing the trailer for Dawntrail, everything about the expansion has the feels of what is needed after what we went through in Endwalker. I am really looking forward to it even though it's not until June / July 2024 and willing to wait for it because it looks like it will be worth it!
Thanks, SE, for giving us exactly what we needed to feel better!
Edit for clarity: This is not sarcasm and my real opinion
We saved the world. Then we saved another diemnsion. Then we saved the entire universe and all of creation.
But now we're... gonna help find a new ruler for a distant faraway land? The stakes surely deflated.
But don't get me wrong! I'm not exactly complaining. This could be a great breath of fresh air, a very much needed change of pace towards less dramatic circumstances.
I just hope it's handled properly.
What we saw about the new continent is really hype, I love to see mesoamerican and Andes cultures blended into Eorzea.
The stakes will inevitably raise again eventually, having a soft reset while exploring the world is a good way to lay down a lot of new plotlines and potentially use some older forgotten ones. A lot of people complain about de-powering the player but they have always relied on plot devices and friends. My problem is the narrative itself. Spoilers for the entire MSQ up to and including Endwalker

Things might not seem as hype without a clear big bad in sight, but it leaves more room to build up another or even several. If it ends up being some ancient evil, it would be kinda hilarious if they keep waking up one after another year after year, so the slight break will make it seem less ridiculous.
I hope it ends up being more about the local politics instead of just chill trip though.
I hadn't even considered that there'd be people upset about more scions. Guess I just took it for granted
