    It's the expected composition, which does not necessarily imply optimal or mandatory. Mechanics tend to be designed with it in mind, as do most strategies (if you're triple ranged you'll usually wind up with one of them positioned like a melee), most parties naturally fall into that composition for a variety of reasons, etc.

    And, well, just from a sheer numbers standpoint, it's kinda hard to argue that 6/7 is more lopsided than 5/7 or 5/8 would have been.

    It's odd that you count both phys/magic as the same category, Ranged/magic ranged play completely differently besides, both giving you separate party buff, if it was intended for both to be interchangeable from one another then it wouldn't give you extra stats for bringing both.

    The only thing both have in common that melee's don't, is the fact they're "ranged" but again both are separate and generally don't even play like one another.
