Going up to someone's face and saying, "I don't think your product is worth the asking price" isn't rude in haggle cultures where it's expected, but definitely sounds like it could be interpreted as rude in Japanese depending on the tone and specific phrasing used.

It's rude in the whole solar system, not only in Japan.
That phrase implies he is a cheater.
If a plumber came to your house and you answered like that (about the repair he did or the new bath), the plumber would probably find an alternative way to use the hoses.

As far as I can tell its not like he is poo-pooing any criticism he gets, he seems to just be pointing out how tiresome trolls and the like can be (This forum alone proves that…) I know some people like to treat Yoshi-P as if he is the devil recently, but I do not see why he should be bared from speaking honestly about such stuff. Its not a weakness to acknowledge it.

Some of the very same content creators and influencers he invites to his exclusive events regularly insult and harass those who voice even polite criticism on Twitter. His words would ring less hollow if legitimate concerns regarding the game weren't attacked by what has very much become his own personal army - intentionally or otherwise. For example, during the marketing phase it was obvious from footage of the game that regular enemies were arguably too easy and provided little challenge. The demo proved as much, as did the release of the game itself.

Nonetheless, quite often those concerns were shot down by those who had been invited to play the game and who had a financial incentive to cosy up to Yoshi-P and his latest product rather than admit to any flaws. In between telling their followers to please purchase the Torgal plushie that they received as a freebie, they were branding anyone who was critical as a 'hater'.

I'd be curious to learn if he brought that up during his interview.

Even in regards to FFXIV, I've noticed similar trends. Everything from tone policing to spinning personal tastes and likes/dislikes as some horrific and controversial thing when they're just preferences towards a video game.

To be honest, Theodric, we are in the worst age of "content creation"...negativity and drama sells and that is what most of them seek everyday, everytime. Yoshida is partially wrong but he can't be too much restrictive or FFXIV may lose some space on stream platforms.

Square enix is a company and not worthy of defense or praise. Mr. Yoshida is a person who gets exasperated sometimes and said a thing that almost anyone would and people act like (or at least will post) it was some sort of weakness or faux pas.
