Is Meracydia going to be a a inspired retelling of FFIX?

Meracydia got basically bombed and nuked by the allagan empire and all cultures there probably destroyed as we learned from the triad questline and from Tiamat. So i picture it either as a barren wasteland like the burn or as a land that got reclaimed by nature and tribal societies.

So expect to see it infested with goblins like Idyllshire. You know SE always does this sort of thing lol.

Given our ability to time travel, we could just go back in time and fix all problems that ever happened in history. I could see an expansion doing this. Maybe we have a role to play in one of these previous calamities.

There's very little time for a meaningful build up, which leads me to speculate that is either one of the following:

a) Something secondary triggered as a side-effect, from .5 (part1) to .55 (part2), of the void arc resolution, which will lead into the next story.

b) Something really simple, like for example, Krile asking you to acompany her to wherever that missive she got leads to, but in this case there's very little cliffhanger value on its own (as in, without the teaser we'll get this week).

There was some off-handed mention before we went to confront Golbez about Thancred and... someone else, I forget who, getting some opportunity from a benefactor, and that would wait until the whole "voidsent apocalypse" thing was over. Very blink-and-you-miss-it.

(Also there's still that line about Thancred scouting the far east from 6.1 that's never been addressed. Dude hears we're on a quest to go unlock the secrets of dimension-hopping and he can meet his surrogate daughter again, and whatever was happening in Hingashi was apparently more important. I thought it might have been Mount Rokkon, but apparently not.)

I figure I'll find out on friday, but I still maintain the next expansion is going to be FFXIV: Chains of Promathia. Well, not called that, but take a lot of elements from that. Just a hunch I've had.

Not quite maybe... if they follow their reveal routine, we'll see 7.0, and just glimpses of new areas - which may just fuel speculation. I remember when ShB 1st trailer showed Thancred running with Ryne people thought it was some Thanalan ruins.

But considering most of FFXIV has been a love-letter to the classics, I think IX is one the few left to have a bit of theme here in a content patch.

We had a lot of FF I-VIII and XI being represented in some content.

But I think not IX, and X as the last of the classics.

Yes I know there was that FFX event years ago, but...it was not much.

It would be nice to have blitzball be the big thing in this game to represent X more properly.
