the only relic step that was no boring item grind was the "kill ifrit, garuda, titan" one. I dont mind 1500 tomes, I can do whatever I want to finish them and most side activities feel twice as rewarding now

Ah I see the trend of people who never played during ARR and HW and base their perception of those relics on how they are now and use that as an excuse for why the current tomestone step is fine is still alive and well
Yup... remember doing those when they were first added. Actually felt like a sort of accomplishment before it got nerfed all to hell.
I'll up the ante as well. I fully upgraded multiple Relic and Mythic weapons in FFXI :P lol
He leaves them out because noting actual differences in the systems destroys his argument of "IT'S ALL THE SAME INNIT? LMAO" and he's at least smart enough to not self sabotage.Singing clusters have other options to them do they not? I seem to recall the two girls having repeatable quests on the daily/weekly to get them involving other content should you wish not to burn tomestones. I also find it odd you leave out Umbrites partner in crime Crystal Sand for the step which had a whole menu of alternate trade ins of varying items so you could spend the poetics on Umbrite instead. I will give you Archaic Enchanted Ink though, that to my knowledge has no other acquisition method. My point is I would be fine with this if I had an option to not use my tomestones that made me go do content I feel needs help with wait times like SB/SHB instances.

Considering the only content I can run for the tombstones required is the same crap as Level 90/Expert Roulette, I'd say that the method of acquiring past relics not being as monotonous was a huge plus to them over the Manderville Tombstone weapons. Was it much different when we would spend tomestones on a bunch of different tokens instead?
- Singing Clusters
- Umbrite
- Archaic Enchanted Ink
Or running dungeons to earn a token (instead of expending tomestones)
- Bozja memories
- Atma book credit,etc
It is all the same when you think about it. If anything, we have MORE story than the ARR or HW relic quest.
I'd much rather get Mhach or an Ivalice Raid than CT in Alliance roulette but due to a lack of incentive to run those, most of the time, you're stuck in CT for the millionth time. The Relic grinds gave that incentive for the other raids to actually show up.
There was also the fact that BLU is actually fun and made some of the Bozja relic grind a cinch to do.
The problem isn't the Macguffin. It's the method of getting it that's the boring part.

I did 3 ARR relics while all steps were current and 4 HW relics while all steps were current.
Tomestones is fine.
literally what even—
"You know, in Ultimates, and Savage, and Criterion, and Extreme, and PvP, and Alliance Raids, and Normal Raids, and Story Trials, and Expert Dungeons, and Trust Dungeons... you're just targeting a boss and constantly activating cooldowns while keeping your GCD spinning until you receive loot."
"So, honestly, really, it's all the same when you think about it."
"And that's why I don't see any problem with all battle content except Expert Roulette being removed from endgame at 7.0."
"In fact, since there's now FOUR Dungeons at a time in 7.0 Expert Roulette, we now have MORE battle content than we did in ARR or HW."
"HW Relic Quests were easy because I backloaded all the work for a single trivial starter step by grinding constantly over the previous 2 years".

first step of anima was easy, I just turned in my 3 Zetas for 3 of them and the last one i ground out the atmas.
The ARR relic was far worse than the HW ones.
Atma's alone took some people longer than it took me to finish a whole relic due to RNG back then. I was lucky and got all mine within the first 48 hours. This was back when the patch dropped on Thursday night. I had all mine by Saturday evening.
Books were far more annoying also because some fates just had crappy spawn rates.
Also, Anima required 0 crafting. You could get it faster with crafting, but it wasn't required. You could also do gathering, which was my choice.
The Zeta required crafting, but not heavily.
Yes. And the rest of it wasn't nearly as grindy as the ARR relics because drop rates were 100%. Anima was the easiest relic before EW lol.
