Housing Scarcity is manufactured

I think that a huge part of that is how they designed wards. Most of us have our favourite housing plots.

My criteria was that i wanted a large House becouse i liked apartment gardening and more gardening plots sounded fun and i wanted mb to be as close as possible becouse i used my apartment building's mb a lot so figured i could do the same with a house.

While we all have a little different preferencies what comes to housing plots they still do overlap which causes some plots to be more wanted than others and that is where ward design comes in. If we would have instanced housing everyone could get all of their housing criteria easily met but it's not so easy with ward design.

That's how we can have a situation where there are people who say that they can't get a house (usually meaning house that they wan't) and available plots at the same time. I think that instanced housing is the only fix. No matter how se would design new wards there is always someone who won't get the plot they wan't.

That's where the lottery system actually made the situation worse.

Before it's implementation even small plots would be bought up all the time because it meant you had your foot in the door. Even if you didn't want the plot it would allow you to relocate to a plot you actually wanted in the future.

Nowadays there is no point for people to buy undesirable plots because they get nothing out of it and just waste their money.

A quick personal visit to Lamia reveals no less than SEVENTY FIVE empty plots in the Goblet alone. A mix of large, medium and small.

My FC house in ward 25 is literally surrounded by alt sub FCs. took them awhile but they finally have all the plots. the entire ward might have 3 legit FC's. LOL

I like how some of the people, (OP included if that is indeed Titanman/Gaius), who are arguing for house scarcity are guilty of owning multiple houses. There's irony to be found in this thread.

Vel likes Mao because he did this too. Much hammerings and nails and sawdusts later, Vel has nice house with big red roof. Vel is happy in cottage with big big sofa and tea set.

Just checked PassiaDB and all those empty plots in the Goblet you're discussing are FC only. It's not just about "fashionable districts". The majority of open housing right now is FC only.

If it was all about the money, demolition would never get suspended for long periods of time across entire regions if not all regions. The number of players unable to play the game due to whatever prompts the suspension is small compared to the number of players who are still able to play yet will stop paying but still keep their house.

If it was all about the money, most furnishings would only be available through the cash shop instead of just the seasonal event items plus a handful of others.

If it was all about the money, the number of wards would scale to world population size instead of being the same across all worlds so there would be no worlds with an abundance of available plots.

I suspect there are a lot of players who misunderstand what prestige is. Prestige is respect or admiration for someone who has displayed exceptional skill/achievement. Prestige will not generate drama because of that respect or admiration.

Getting a house in this game doesn't take skill or achievement. It takes luck. It is not prestige being generated by the house ownership system. No one respects or admires a player because that player that owns a LB 11/41s or Shiro 30/60s. At best they see those players as lucky. At worst, they become jealous and that is what leads to drama.

The question that needs to be asked: it is healthy for MMOs to incorporate systems that generate drama among members of the player community?


Yet they can unsub for up to 6 weeks while they play other games without losing their house.

Too many people are dumb when it comes to being a consumer.

Biggest problem with the lottery system is only letting you buy one lottery ticket for only one plot. Won't let you enter more than one plot lottery. Still hoping for island instant housing.

The system was never designed for a single player game. It was designed for an MMO where players worked together in groups, guilds etc etc.

Nonsense. It's the same system LotRO had and the game wasn't designed around guilds at all.
