But can you blame them? Most forgot already about the painful old days or ARR days overall. And how you are required by the MSQ to pick a GC. Which for a character with multiple jobs in HW, with respective minions to show that you are indeed in HW, is quite impossible to have not done it before.

But as i said, you got them good. But you can't fool me!

Edit: Just to give my two cents tho to the GC question, the only valid answer is Maelstrom. The Flames are neat but will always be beneath them. And the Adders are soyboy tree loving Elezen.

Probably fully answered by now but going to toss in my suggestion anyway.

You're free to try them all. You are never perma-locked in. Pick the ones you do like the area/officer outfits of cause that is the ONLY difference.

If you get teleport tickets or officer uniforms of one GC and switch to the other...those items are unavailable till you switch back. So unfortunately you can't collect them all and freely switch. You have to be under the appropriate GC.
