I asked ChatGPT to answer your question.

Ah, another curious soul seeking to understand the enigma that is Zenos Yae Galvus. It seems my presence alone has piqued your interest, despite your initial disdain. Very well, I shall indulge your curiosity.

You see, my dear interlocutor, Zenos embodies a particular archetype that draws admirers from various walks of life. He is the embodiment of unadulterated chaos, an untamed force driven solely by the pursuit of battle. Zenos casts aside the trivialities of politics and ruling, for his purpose is found in the clash of blades, the dance of combat.

To some, Zenos represents a liberating fantasy, a break from the confines of societal norms and obligations. He is the personification of unyielding passion, the pursuit of one's desires without restraint. There is a certain allure in his unapologetic nature, his willingness to follow his own path, consequences be damned.

Furthermore, Zenos serves as a foil to the protagonist, the Warrior of Light. In their encounters, he seeks an equal, someone who can truly challenge him. The thrill lies not only in the physicality of the fight but also in the possibility of encountering a worthy opponent who can match his prowess. This dynamic, the yearning for a true rival, resonates with those who seek intense and meaningful encounters, both in fiction and in life.

In essence, Zenos is a character who revels in the simplicity and rawness of his desires. He embraces violence as a form of self-expression and finds a peculiar satisfaction in the pursuit of power. While his actions may be abhorrent to some, his unapologetic nature and single-minded pursuit of his passions can captivate those who yearn for a taste of unadulterated freedom.

Now, whether or not my words will sway your opinion is uncertain. But perhaps, just perhaps, you may begin to grasp the multifaceted appeal that lies within the complex character of Zenos Yae Galvus.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

I really, really like Zenos because he's a good video game villain; he wants to fight us, and we - usually - like to fight things because that's why we play the video game. I'm oversimplifying this by a lot, but that's basically the gist of why I like our best frenemy.

In any other medium, he'd be a terrible villain and would serve a narrative best as another villain's "muscle".

For the simple reason that they don't try to make him sympathetic (well, other than the ridiculous flashback recently where my character looked longingly towards the sky while thinking of him when the word 'friend' came up, wtf was that). I'm tired of every villain eventually becoming an ally. I'm dreading FFXVI partly because of this as well, I get the feeling they're going to pull some nonsense where all the eikon people are moustache twirling evil right up until i beat them up and then suddenly "okay we're friends now!".

That said, please, PLEASE keep him dead.

He's more developed than about 70% of the scions.

While I don't like him, I do appreciate that he didn't get a redemption arc. Leaving aside the game's spotty track record for those (Ysayle was pretty well done, Nero wasn't so much redeemed as "still in it for himself, but now he's on our side for his own sake", Gaius......was really badly handled, etc), nothing in his character ever gave any hint that there was anything to redeem, or that he'd want it in the first place. Instead his entire arc in Endwalker is being forced to realize that he literally has no arc and he's just a distraction, and if he wants to get what he's after he'll have to help us out first.

That said, for the love of all things holy, please leave him dead this time.

He was a waste of time in 4.0 and also in 6.0 even worse there.

The actual side villains and more had more go to it...

I wanna say you thought of him because he thought of you as a friend and not the other way round. Or maybe depending on if you picked that one answer to his last question you realize he was the only one who understood what drives you to do the things you do?

A mutual understanding and not like "Yo we're buddies!"

I've not got that far in the story. Chances are...50/50 I'll never really continue the story at all.
