Since some people dont like it when someone ask for something related to XI, if I say I want to see Cloud in this game (especially in the Colosseum) am I going to be told to go back to VII?

I would also love to see the futbol game that X had.
Id also like Zidane race to be included from IX.
OOOOH and some FF music, classics from every game!

ok from reading this post from the guy who dont remeber ffxi much i would say failed. It not the fact this game will be like ffxi but somewhat close to it and yeah ffxi isnt ffxi anymore it more like ffxi+iii=ffxiv lol. the new add on pretty destroy ffxi. Alot ppl cant go back to ffxi anymore b/c they trade in their ffxi account for ffxiv failed account if SE would return my account on ffxi i would total bail out on this.

I dont know about you guys but FFXI was simply to this day best mmorpg I've ever played and I can safely say I've played quite a few. I quit pre-abyssea ofc...so I say "I want my FFXI-2!"

EDIT: Just played about 12 hours worth of Champions online and its lame indeed. I have no idea whats going on still and I don't remember anything I've done up to where I've gotten. Something about some aliens and a jailbreak is all thats stood out.

FFXI is referenced so often because it was the most successful Online MMP game of its day (pre-Abyssea). Ppl didnt just try it for a couple months...most references you see are people playing for 4, 5, 6 years. To reference SE's success w/ FFXI is ok. To compare an utter failure that FFXIV has been to a very successful FFXI is a good thing because people obviously want this game to succeed and morph into something that will compare to the fun they had in FFXI. SE knows what they had in FFXI and the money they made over the years.

Come on, each time FFXIV comes out with something new...it is conquered fairly quickly. They are trying to keep the hook baited while also working on 2.0. I am typically one of the white knights in my thinking, but FFXIV desparately needs a good role model and there is nothing really to use other than FFXI

well as someone that only played xi for a very short time because i hated the game i can even say this argument is very flawed. the people that played for years look at xi as it was in its original form and not what it has become. i'm sure if you started a new game that was the exact same as the original one was alot of those players would return, but to say if you like xi then go play it just will not work.

the game xi is now is not the same game as they played and had the fond memories of.

Indeed, the FFXI I have fond memories of is exploring a vast world with areas that tell it's own little stories (I bet most people didn't know those 'Weapon' mobs are actually called Kobolds, which is why they didn't exist in the past during the Crystal War era, they're earth spirits that formed a physical body to "wield" the weapons of fallen soldiers, thus why they hang around the spine.)

Meeting new people, partying for many hours (even grinding was fun when you were with fun people or people who knew how to play)...doing the massive storyline with actual Cutscenes..not "Omg here's a box of text that means nothing no go kill 5 boars, bitch!"

End-game events that actually felt like something different...not just a hole in the wall with a boss like most MMOs.

Working my ass off to get to:

    And

If you've played FFXI during these days, you'd know the feeling you got when you first set foot into these 2 locations and heard the beautiful music.

This is what FFXIV should have captured and more and yes that means building off of what FFXI has done and making it better, not throwing it away like they originally did, just to appeal to people who like generic MMORPGs -.-

FFXIV is already a step away from being FFXI if you havent noticed. but things are hell of alot more accessable. and nothing is wrong with adding the good from ffxi to ffxiv. unless you want less stuff to do they should just stop working on 2.0 and say well here you go.

they need stff LIKE FFXI's sky and sea where you need a little bit of work to get to and finsh. right now its like wow where its linear and can be beat in 25mins?

It's still a few steps away from being like XI, once it recaptures the "adventure" atmosphere and actually get rid of powerleveling (as in actually partying and DOING stuff in a party is the best way to progress) then it's "like XI"..a real RPG. It is getting there, which is a good thing, but I've honestly never played another MMO that gave me the same feeling of accomplishment that XI did, and despite what people who hate the game says, it's not because it was "hard", it was because you actually had to work for your rewards, as I exampled above getting to Sky and Sea was a challenge, a great storyline and you actually had to work with people to get something done.

Not like single player RPGs posing as MMOs today.

Both Sky and Sea came with expansions.

There is still time for FFXIV to have similar zones, Crystal Tower is a step in the right direction, im sure they have plenty more cool things planned in the future.

I agree that something otherworldly like Sea/Promyvion would be cool also.

I'm waiting for you to say "back in my day !!"

We have been over the whole old school MMO thing before, players in todays market don't want time sinks they want fun, yes I agree that FFXI did give you a sense of accomplishment but that doesn't fit in with what people want from an MMO these days.

Sadly you are in a small minority of players that want hardcore gaming and time sinks to make them feel good about themselves.

I would say on these forums there is a 50/50 split but these forums don't account for everyone who plays nor the masses of people who may play once the game becomes good.

I agree that the game could do with being a little more difficult and content that requires more skill to complete, but I sure as hell don't' want it to be as much hard work as FF11, that game was like having a second job.
