Remember the FFXI mentor system?

as for the mentor flag, i would like this in game as i like sharing what knowledge i have of the game to people who are seeking it +1 for the OP

On FFXI the first time I got helped by was from a Mentor, he helped me learn how to play the game and also gave me 10k with some gear. It was a really fun experience, the only problem with it though, nobody used it how it should have been used. So, if they put something in this game that is like it, but made it work, I would be down with that.

I already help people when they need it. If I need to have a special symbol by my name to feel important while doing it, so be it.

This. The mentor system really wasn't touched much after 2005-06. Aside from my joke on the 1st page of this thread, I used it in a serious manner quite a bit in the early years of the game.

In the elder days though, I would get bored and turn the mentor flag on and help people get to different cities. I would help with SJ quests, yada yada yada. I enjoyed it so much because helping these new people reminded me of the sheer "awe" and "wonder" that I had when I was new to the world of Vana'Diel. Also just gave you a good feeling tossing them 10k and buying them some Bone+1 gear for their level 21 jobs

I always have had my mentor up, but not once get asked for help from any newbie.

With the amount of new players I've found and stopped to spend an hour or two helping them out with various things and answering questions in the following days that they play, I wouldn't mind having the mentor system again ^^ I do it now without the system but if I had the flag up and a new player saw it they'd know they could message me and I wouldn't dismiss them.

The system is fairly self explanatory, it gives base training already so a mentor system wouldn't be that needed, and getting into a Linkshell more important. I would mentor on and off for 6 or so years on Xi when I was bored and got most of what I needed between LS events. But often new players got ignored and complained noone would help, I tested this out and 90% of the marked mentors never responded.
