I think many of us excuse it because theres a heck a lot more of this stuff earnable for free that arent subpar to the quality offered in the cash shop.The wow Shop has currently:
- 24 mounts
- 21 pets
- 1 toy
- 5 transmog sets
The ffxiv shop has:
- 36 mounts
- 42 pets (or minions as they're called here)
- 119 costumes sets
- 42 emotes
- 40 sets of dyes
- 30 weapon skins
- 95 armors
- 20 accessories
- 12 chocobo bardings
- 42 orchestrion rolls
- 156 housing items
- 2 face paints
- 1 fashion accessory
- 1 tool
I deliberately omitted stuff like fantasia or race changes and level boosting, as well as "bank slots" or glamour dresser/wardrobe.
But still, am I missing something here or are we really saying that ffxiv cash shop is actually better? Because I don't think I've seen a f2p shop loaded with this much stuff.
It definitely sucks and Im not even trying to defend the cash shops between the two games, theyre both terrible
The real excuse everyone gives is that "they were free, so it's fine", meaning that if a new players wants the same stuff then "too bad, sucks for you, now buy it and shut up"
Doesn't seem fair to me and I did obtain the free versions of said attires in the past. But I thought all of this stuff should count as new content for new players, so now we draw the line?
Correct. Now it's not free anymore, it's in the shop for a price. New players lost their chances and now if they want those items they have to purchase them
I don't see the problem here? Are you saying that new players can get them again, right here, right now, for free?
PS: I tried to remove the "free" stuff that is no longer free. Could be inaccurate, but feel free to change. Doesn't change a whole lot
The wow Shop has currently:
- 24 mounts
- 21 pets
- 1 toy
- 5 transmog sets
The ffxiv shop has:
- 36->28 mounts
- 42 pets (no idea which were free)
- 119 costumes sets -> 76 costume sets
- 42 emotes -> 23 emotes
- 40 sets of dyes -> technically all of them are obtainable in the game, therefore i'll remove this
- 30 weapon skins -> 21 weapon skins
- 95 armors -> 3 (don't remember slippers being ever free)
- 20 accessories -> Removed
- 12 chocobo bardings -> I honestly don't know which were free or not. I'll make it easy and remove them all
- 42 orchestrion rolls -> 26 orchestrion rolls (if the 3 euros ones are the free ones at least. I'm not sure which were free or not)
- 156 housing items - Too many to count
- 2 face paints - Removed
- 1 fashion accessory
- 1 tool -> removed

Didnt say that was my reasoning. Again my reasoning is the quantity and quality of the stuff you earn in-game vs cash shop.The real excuse everyone gives is that "they were free, so it's fine", meaning that if a new players wants the same stuff then "too bad, sucks for you, now buy it and shut up"

Actually it changes the list a lot. Select online exclusive
Items that are exclusive
The ffxiv shop has:
- 26 mounts (4 of those being reskins)
- 8 minions
- 67 costumes sets
- 22 emotes
- 20 dyes (why counting multiple sets of the same dye..) Majority of those available in game.
- 20 weapon skins (singles again)
- 4 armors (rest have been available in game)
- 0 accessories all have been available in game.
- 5 chocobo bardings
- 24 orchestrion rolls
- 22 housing items not including sets or items that have been available.
- 0 face paints
- 0 fashion accessory
- 0 tool
So is it really that big of a deal???

Considering that, once again the wow Shop has currently:Items that are exclusive

- 24 mounts
- 21 pets
- 1 toy
- 5 transmog/costume sets
What do you think the answer is?
I'd say it's very debatable: you will never find a good of a mount as, say, cruise chaser in game, but SOME other mounts okay i guess? Same thing for costumes: some are fine - like this alt is wearing - but most are really so-so. The 2B costume from the nier raid was probably one of the best free costumes you can get and I even bet that it was going to be cash shop stuff. Glad I lost the bet.
Youre right its debatable becauseI'd say it's very debatable: you will never find a good of a mount as, say, cruise chaser in game, but SOME other mounts okay i guess? A. Cruise Chaser I find is slow feeling and boring
B. 2b costume is also safe and boring in terms of glam compared to the other plethora of free costumes and attires gotten through sidequests
The token is the biggest cope of the FF14 playerbase. Square sells you gil, both directly and indirectly. There is no difference except you are a fanboy for one game and hate the other.
You do realize expecting Blizzard NOT to monetize Traders Post is going to make you look like a fool once the buyable tendies feature comes out right?
The reason people say that itll be implemented because the same thing happens over and over again when things gets datamined. May I need to remind you that the WoW Token was datamined in Burning Classic before theyve implemented in Wrath Classic?
The history is there, youre just choosing to ignore it.
Anyway the only good thing FFXIV has going for itself is that the cash shop isnt in your face constantly in-game and isnt as destructive or intrusive with the integrity of the game in terms of progression. Only big thing I can say is that you can buy gil which is bad but at least you cant buy mgp or tomestones like some other MMOs would most likely do for monetization
People said "the store will be full of cosmetics" in 2013 when store helmets came out. Took nearly 10 years for the first transmog set to appear on the store lol.
Theres a bigger history of Square puting stuff in the store vs Blizzard as the other poster demonstrated. Remember its Square that sells you event rewards because you dared to unsub or not play during that time. In WoW i can wait for halloween and buy rewards from 10 years ago with INGAME CURRENCY.
