Logins AREN'T per world, Logins are per data center.I don't understand why login queues are still a thing. Obviously, it's been an issue during periods of high player counts following an expansion, and that makes sense. Also, some servers are more populated than others; thus, on worlds like Gilgamesh or Hyperion, a login queue makes reasonable sense. However, EW is in its twilight period so player counts aren't nearly as high as they would be post xpac. Furthermore, we recently saw the addition of a new NA Data Center. I transferred to Halicarnassus about 2 months ago and can unequivocally confirm that the server is pretty empty, yet I get put into a queue every time I load up the game.
So, why are we still waiting in line to log in? If there are server queues at this point in the middle of an expansion patch cycle, are we headed for another mess of 2002 and 3001 errors when 7.0 comes around?
This isn't a rant. I'd genuinely like to know if someone out there has the answer.
Just to clarify, I'm not a free trial player.
Try to login in another world of your datacenter, there is the same queue.
I have 10,000 needles,
I'm not a weaver,
and I'm not scared to use them.
People on the Free Trial should be limited to when they can login and how long they can stay logged in.
They should not be allowed to login or stay logged in during peak-prime time.
Do not allow them to join the Novice Channel.
Infact, don't allow them to use any form of Chat like /Say (abused for RMT, Stalkers) rather, only allow them to select a few pre-defined Auto-Translate questions and responses in Duties.
This will shorten the wait time a little bit.
Point me to where I said other games were doing it wrong? I'll wait...
But since you can't answer that because you're trying to make a weird rhetoric out of thin air.
But hey, let me clarify. - I just stated that there are clear reasons why such a system is in place, depending on how much you do or don't invest into underlying infrastructure. Some games will deal with 'hidden'/'obfuscated' queues, where these numbers aren't stated, but still otherwise there, and done in some other way, e.g., loading screens. Some will otherwise specify those, which is the case in XIV, and different companies will have a different infrastructure. In fact, you could ask several infrastructure engineers, and/or network designers to design a system, and you would get several different responses, each for their own different reasons.
In the case some games, everyone connects to the same lobby server, which will establish and maintain your connection with a Data Centre, be it Chaos, Light, Elemental, Mana, Aether. Once you select a world, the lobby still is responsible for allocating you a server that then has that world data, and this would still remain the case with the queue. Once the queue is gone, and you're in the world, then you'd be redirected. This has a few benefits in that... The logging in server traffic is separate from the world(s), so if the lobby were to go down, for example, it means that the world necessarily doesn't, so those people could still remain connected -- This is why in some games even when servers go down, players remain connected, even in the case of, say, Steam or Playstation Network - Because it is different servers handling different data and/or for different purposes.
This is also why, when there is an outage, it isn't necessarily everyone on the same world that is affected, because it isn't 1 world on same server/IP, but rather a bundle of people from different worlds on the same server, and vice versa with a single server handling players from multiple worlds.
Again, I'll wait for your response as to where I said other games were doing it wrong.
Are people in this thread really unironically complaining about that "This World is currently full" message and taking it at face value and calling it some big lie? I took it for granted we had enough common sense to know it's just some generic queueing message and didn't actually mean there were thousands of people crawling around the server at 4am.
That wouldn't help, since the queue isn't there because worlds are actually full. One of the very first replies in this thread put it best:
It's just a buffer to prevent overload if there is high volume. The servers aren't full.
Also the free trial is limited enough as it is, no need to turn its players into second-class citizens, jesus.

You realize players go to places other than Limsa right? I don't think I've been to Limsa in months.
Because its not the server that is full, its the login server that is processing players in chunks across the data center.Nothing to respond to what I said I see
Good, as expected, calling it a conspiracy but nothing to respond to what I mentioned, let me ask again
Who is logging in and creating a 30-40 people queue at 5 AM on a new EU world, hell even on the entire DC ? Why is Sagittarius which is a new world full between 4 and 5 AM ?
Exactly, it's literally a lie, because its obvious none of the EU worlds are full at 4 or 5 AM.
Keep coping with your conspiracy garbage, the evidence is there, or is 5 people in Limsa a full world now ? Are we really down to that ?
Yes. It may in fact surprise you to learn that I, as an Aussie, had a character on a new EU server some time ago. I also know of many Aussies, US players and others who also play on EU servers. See. you are forgetting that they can world transfer for all kinds of reasons, that word "global" really doesnt resonate with you, does it?the fact you actually manage to come at me and tell me that people from australia, new zealand and even some parts of NA, log on a new european world at 5 AM (EU time), with 5 people in Limsa
You really need to think outside the box.
Silly rabbit.
Activision / Blizzard is busy merging servers, because so many have been EMPTY for YEARS. WoWs population is falling off a cliff. And yet Activision/Blizzard has a queue per server and not a queue per battlegroup (back when they were a thing) so guess who's ahead ?
You...didnt know?

I hope you get paid for how hard you shill here. Like others are accused of being whiteknights all the time, but if they ever need to print an image next to the definition of shill it should be your forum avatar. Yeah yeah the game is so populated yet they cant even fill a new data center during one of the biggest surges in new players they had ever.Yes.
