That wasn't the impression I got from the scant research I did. It sounds like Asmon made some bait "FFXIV" streams where he watched youtube for six hours, then when people said "where's the FFXIV" he called he community an obsessive cult.
Which...it can be, but that's not evidence of it.
I think it's more likely that Asmon realized that his cash flow comes from angry WoW nerds who want him complaining about WoW and hating on anything that isn't WoW. He had an alright time up until Stormblood from what I saw.
Ok, I'll bite and recount the events of the asmongold subreddit FFXIV fan banwave of summer 2022. He made it into about a third of the way through Stormblood before he finally called it quits. It just seems that if Asmon didn't play MSQ the way people wanted to, FFXIV fans would become mad at him. They were expecting Asmon to binge the whole MSQ which wasn't something he planned on doing. He preferred to play a little bit of MSQ one day and maybe play something else that same day, like Lost Ark or Wow. But the angry twitch messages and reddit posts kept rolling in about how Asmon was ruining the MSQ by taking it at a leisurely pace, and they made strange accusations about him not actually enjoying the game and that he was baiting the FFXIV community for views. Like the guy has made an entire youtube review raving about how FFXIV was a great game and how he was enjoying it. He's spent countless hours grinding lower level raids for glamour gearsets and even completed old raid content like the Coils of Bahamut, synced. But no, the FFXIV viewers instead want to gaslight him by saying this was all a set up by him to farm views, and that he doesn't actually enjoy the game... all because he won't binge MSQ.That wasn't the impression I got from the scant research I did. It sounds like Asmon made some bait "FFXIV" streams where he watched youtube for six hours, then when people said "where's the FFXIV" he called he community an obsessive cult.

Eventually Asmon lost his shit and started banning all the users that were making such posts and refused to stream the game. I don't blame the guy for doing so because it was just so bizarre. He made the comparison that these types of FFXIV viewers were similar to an overly attached girlfriend/boyfriend in constant need of attention and validation, and if they didn't get that validation and assurance then they would flip out. And you know what? I don't entirely disagree with his analogy.
Hopefully one day Asmon comes back to FFXIV. Overall, it's a very decent game with plenty of things left for him to do, but he's gotta learn to avoid and shrug off all the obsessive crazies in this community.
Nah that was just at the end of his FF14 "career"That wasn't the impression I got from the scant research I did. It sounds like Asmon made some bait "FFXIV" streams where he watched youtube for six hours, then when people said "where's the FFXIV" he called he community an obsessive cult.

Its pretty clear he didnt enjoy the interactive movie style of the MSQ. Look at the game he normally plays - WoW, PoE, Diablo, Dark Souls, Elden Ring. All games that put the gameplay first. And pretty much everything is locked behind the MSQ. His only option would have been to esc->skip cutscene to get to the gameplay but that wouldnt work on stream.
regardless the guy did old raids and coils synced and that was very cool but alos the player base from FFXIV and WoW was pretty crappy towards him always trying to block the npcs and such during his streams so that didn't help in the long and those people went back to their respective holes. I only watched him during titan EX when he did it MINE. The guy was super stoked when Titan went down finally.
