In addition to AF gear, perhaps it would be good to lock the gear relating to the current expansion or patch as well. So, for instance if 7.0 were to come out, then 7.0 gear would be glam locked. Then on 7.1 release all gear from that expansion release is unlocked, while anything released during 7.1 is locked. 7.2 release unlocks all 7.1 while 7.2 is locked and so forth.
This would give people time to really appreciate the gear on each release, but also give you something to look forward to.
I disagree with this. You should have to earn your glamour to some amount. I would prefer it if they allowed you to glam anything as long as you had the level to equip it, but I don't think we should go further than that. You shouldn't be able to unlock every class/job and immediately glam every item without having the level to equip those items. They should also untie the level requirement for glamour. I shouldn't have to be all 90s to be able to wear any piece of gear as glamour.
I really don't understand why they went the route of tying glamour restrictions to equipment restrictions. I guess one could argue laziness or money saving or both. But with the reworks they have already given the glamour chest, I hope they will work on untying glam from equipment restrctions

We should also be able to glam an item regardless of level as long as you can equip both items. It's a pain to adjust plates and glamors for level 70 or 80 duties like Eureka or ultimates.
I wrote about it here, in case anyone is interested.
There's also a thread requesting glam restrictions to be removed here, if you want to show your support.
Not particularly a strong case as other MMOs with superior transmog systems doesnt lock level restrictions and people are generally happy and fine. Heck I think even FFXI; the previous MMO had less restrictions on what items your allowed go style lock.In addition to AF gear, perhaps it would be good to lock the gear relating to the current expansion or patch as well. Why should FFXIV have to limit themselves? I say let people have fun with the system. I for one believe itll make a lot of people happy for it with relatively little to no consequence at all.
Well, the idea of restricting it based on latest expansion/patch release is to save people from themselves. Gear during the latest expansion/patch release is actually useful as gear. While you should always have the need option ready for anything pertaining to your class, things could still get a bit toxic. Not particularly a strong case as other MMOs with superior transmog systems doesnt lock level restrictions and people are generally happy and fine. As for the level restrictions... this is FFXIV, not other MMOs. That's just pure whataboutism. This is a game at the end of the day, and I don't think it's unfair to ask people to play the content in order to receive the rewards, cosmetic or otherwise.
Again, I'm saying this with the idea that glam restrictions are loosened a bit(before someone who doesn't know how to read gets other ideas)., but if you want to glam the healer top then go play a healer. If you want to glam the pally pants go play a tank. If you want to glam anything pertaining to any dps go play that role.
Assuming they removed glam restrictions by role, I don't think it'd be asking much to ask people to have to be able to actually equip the items they want to glam, even if the glam is for other jobs. It gives people something to aim for and makes them play the game. If we're not willing to add a condition like that, then we genuinely just need to accept that this game is going to be a SL/Imvu sim instead.
in FFXI, the much much much much superior game (according to EU and JP players, the only players whose opinion matter), the artifact gear was wearable by every job
You just don't get it, the same 3 gearsets being shared by 7 different roles actually really matter to each job identity.
Remove the restirctions an Glam. Period. The argument "you should be able to equip the item to glam it" is absolut nonsense because it's based of the idea of "the look of a job". We have all kinds of BS outfits out there that are so far away from the "Job-Fantasy" they are not even in the same universe anymore. It's glamour no stats or boni are used here. If i unlocked it through : buying, clearing or get it gifted let me glamour it. There is no reason for it. BTW. On the healer's: WE GOT ALMOST ONLY ROBES..... R OOOOOOO BBBBB EEE SSSS.... Let us healer's glamour what ever we want and stop gatekeep for no reason. IT'S GLAMOUR, NO STATS INVOLVED.
Second reason: "But glamour need to be earned" ..... WHAT ? Mogstation, Season Events, Mandervill Weapons = Earned? Do you know the meaning of the word in this context or in general?
Third reason : "but it devolves to Glam-Sim...mimiimimiiiii" Are you kidding me ? You want to police how OTHER play ? Glamour is free and for everyone and the system is old and only got band aids the last of couple of years. Lets update it and stop pretending the idea form 1.0 and earlier are still in place.
When I saw that we were going from Broil III at 290 potency in ShB to Broil IV at 295 potency in EW, I was shaking with how excited I was. I couldn't believe they were so generous with a whole 5 potency. I'm going to probably scream in excitement when 7.0 comes out and Broil V hits 300 potency, playing SCH going to be WILD once it hits 300!!!
If it's not intended to be a megathread why are you trying to redirect people from this thread to that one? More threads on this topic improves visibility of the issue, I didn't even know there -was- another thread about this. Let it ride.
