No, it really isn't. They destroyed the HW and SB versions of DRK, so anybody who liked those versions of it don't have anything similar in the game to go to. DRK is not for people who like playing it, DRK is for the devs to destroy and to throw a few of its mechanics into something else. Reprisal and Low Blow were originally from DRK. Camouflage was originally from DRK (Dark Dance, changed into Anticipation). Eukrasia was originally from DRK (Dark Arts).
Stormblood dark knight was by far and away my fave tank, just as stormblood astro was my fave. You can imagine how I felt going into shadowbringers seeing what they did to those two jobs))))
man as someone who has always been a war main, it's nice to actually be viable for once. nobody wanted to be war in shb because of the absurd gcd you had to reach in addition to the rapid button mashing to get out just one extra fell cleave and even then you couldn't really compete with gnb or drk; especially in ally rous where ast made it pointless.
i disagree about the invuln tho. i prefer drk's and pali's. that said i've honestly never felt the need to pop it outside of soaking those stack-up tank busters meant for 2 or more tanks.
I agree about liking Living Dead more than Holmgang, but the reason Holmgang is the best is because of its cooldown.man as someone who has always been a war main, it's nice to actually be viable for once. nobody wanted to be war in shb because of the absurd gcd you had to reach in addition to the rapid button mashing to get out just one extra fell cleave and even then you couldn't really compete with gnb or drk; especially in ally rous where ast made it pointless.

Literally everything other than that for an invul is just flavoring.
WAR getting 2/3 activations of Holmgang over DRK's 2 and PLD's 1 is why its considered the best.
Its entirely for the tempo and resources it can save, healing a tank to full once is no big deal, but being able to disregard so much damage that many times with an invul puts Holmgang on top
It's actually almost half the cooldown of HG.I agree about liking Living Dead more than Holmgang, but the reason Holmgang is the best is because of its cooldown.

By that breadth, you end up with Final Fantasy, Megaman, Pokemon, and Dark Souls all equally being games in which you play and develop a particular role, through progression systems of various sorts (weapons, augmentations, leveling, etc.), all made in Japan. All... JRPGs.
That, however, would obviously be useless as a descriptor, since it would tell us nothing about the actual characteristics of the game.
Not all games that have 'action' them will be "ARPGs"; it takes a particular center of design (philosophy), wherein timing and angle tend to really matter (as opposed to other centering and overarching design traits), for that descriptor to actually be useful. And when one refers to a modern "Ubisoft" game, they are not referring to the half or so that actually feel distinct from one another.
When one refers to state-capitalism, they not referring to any and all capitalism that occurs within a state. When one refers to gendered languages, they are not merely referring to languages that allow one to note gender.
The term "JRPG" has only existed because of particular, often-enjoyed traits that have distinguished them from other forms of RPG (your Biowares, Bethesdas, THQs, etc.).
If it meant only that the game is from Japan, it would be as often used as "ARPG" (American/Australian RPG), "DRPG" (Danish/Dutch/Deutsch RPG), "BRPG" (Canadian/Chinese/Castilian/Columbian/Chechan RPG / what have you).
