We know Ratatoskr is the one on the right because the Encyclopedia Eorzea shows a close-up of that exact picture zoomed in on that specific dragon for her entry on page 206. Bahamut's entry on the next page shows a close-up of the dragon on the left. You know, looking at this again, that could indeed be Bahamut on the right and Ratatoskr on the left. It does resemble the summoned Bahamut, and differs quite a bit from the rest in appearance. This art also dates back to Heavensward, well after the primal version (and other concept art) was seen, whereas the Ratatoskr painting appears to have the signature narrow head. There do appear to be fake Allagan "horns" on Bahamut's head, but they alternate with what look like real horns matching the color of his body.

I'm guessing you didn't play FFIV The Afteryears? Slight spoiler for an old game, but Golbez joins your party and is a power mage and a tank who uses swords (he functions as a dark knight and a black mage). And in the FFIV flashbacks while Golbez the villain, he carries a sword called the "ebony blade".
So in this case they got their own lore correct.

Also, the guy in the flashbacks in the trailer is very obviously based on After Years Golbez.I'm guessing you didn't play FFIV The Afteryears? ...and it's really not 'failed on their own lore' when it's not even the same guy in the first place. Do we get mad that FFXIV's Anima was male, because it shows that 'they don't understand the lore of FFX'?
It's clear that both Golbez and Anima are allusions. Allusions are used to show the player things that have come before, to legitimize them in the present story. Some details can be altered to fit the narrative, but the similarities are close enough that those with the knowledge recognize them. So it's very much they understand their own lore. Also, the guy in the flashbacks in the trailer is very obviously based on After Years Golbez.

Yup. All just 'member berries. Same in name only. The amazing thing is that the writing team does that while also not integrating those references into a meaningful enjoyable story imho. It's almost like how there are a million DBZ fanfics of random tournaments.
Will put you on ignore if you can't form a logical argument but argue nonetheless
