Is the Healer subforum here toxic?

Seems somewhat toxic to me to try to drag posters from other forums into passing judgment on a topic they aren't involved in. But that's just my opinion.

Is the Healer subforum toxic? No. It's just a subforum. It's only purpose is to give players a place to discuss topics related to the healer role.

Are there individuals posting in the subforum that behave toxically? No doubt. There are plenty of toxic people in the world. It would be a miracle for any forum to escape hosting any toxic posters.

Is it everyone posting in the subforum? No. While there are plenty of toxic people, there are even more who want constructive discussion.

Stop making the mistake of believing that a badly behaved and vocal but otherwise small subsection of a much larger population is representative of the entire population. That almost never turns out to be true.

If you want to express your opinion there, go for it. Be willing to accept disagreement with your opinions. Just because someone disagrees doesn't mean they're toxic.

If someone is resorting to personal attacks instead of discussing the opinions/ideas presented, place them on ignore. That will be one less toxic person you are bothered by.

This entire forum is toxic. You need thick skin to post here at all. That's just the way of it. This game is in such a deep stated rut that trolls are slowly being viewed as heros around here just for shitting on the game every opportunity they can get and people love to feast off the dramatic schadenfreude of negativity.

Most of the healer subforum is the same 10-20 people who have argued over and over till they formed a consensus on "This is how you fix everything". Going against that generates immediate opposition because they're convinced they have all the answers for the only people who matter (Savage and Ultimate raiders).
So yeah, I'd call that toxic, but that's also the Housing subforum, all the role based subforums, and even PvP and Quest/Dungeon subforums.

Yeah, that is fair. It does seem to be pretty widespread. But I think your assessments sounds pretty spot on. Because there's been a near unity of the 10-20 main posters, any conflict seems like an affront rather than a different perspective that should be entertained, and treated as an intrusion rather than a valid perspective. And when people holding such perspectives don't surrender and blend into the melting pot, they are strongly unwelcomed, and often driven off.

No one's dragging anyone into anything. If people in an insular community insist on a unified perspective, the only way to see if that really makes sense is to seek outside views from people not in the insular community. If there's agreement even from people of different background and perspective, then you can more readily rule out confirmation bias. If you want to express your opinion there, go for it. It's not "disagreement" that I define as toxic. It's personal attacks and lying about people that I define as toxic.

I think VerdeLuck is correct in assessing this, and your description seems to be pretty much what I see in there as well.

@OP: yes it's terrible, run away and never look back, save yourself before it is too late, before you fall into the trap of staying up till 4am finetuning potencies on a theorycraft that will only be shot down because 'it adds one damage button and that is one too many, the role is called HEALER it is meant to HEAL'

An interesting statement, but...not one that suits the argument you're making.

"We're not toxic...but we're also toxic" or "We want this forum or ourselves, we'll run off anyone who isn't in agreement with us" are not particularly good looks. I also will note that the "real healers" argument started with someone else, and you know that. Indeed, the entire discussion about what the Trinity roles mean was to help sort this issue by seeing different people's perspectives and understand what people mean by things, since people define the terms differently. Moreover, when people are making neutral assessments of things (e.g. what a person thinks of PvP Healer Jobs), that's not an attack on people. Personal attacks against them over that is attacking someone based on an opinion - especially if it's one they support with argument and lay out their reasoning behind.

Yep. I poke my head in there sometimes and while there are some good conversations, it usually at some point just becomes pages of people attacking each other and I nope back out here to GD.

Yeah, the sad thing is that there are good discussions that can go on in there, but at some point, the regulars get annoyed that not everyone seems to agree with them and then the personal attacks start, often over things that were entirely neutral on the part of other posters.

It's not. It's very passionate and filled to the brim with disgruntled players (which is imo pretty justified, even as someone who doesn't main a healer) but I wouldn't call it toxic.

Passion can be good, but personal attacks are not so good, sadly. But maybe people think personal attacks ARE good, I dunno. /shrug
