but i just want one of the shards to be set in Vana diel, seeing the areas remade in a new engine with new content would totally stoke the nostalgia, without the clunky out of date gameplay. (it was a product of it's time & everyone knows it wouldn't fly in this dat & age.
Not super unrelated, but the slow release carbs that was XI and the instant gratification sugar rush XIV is are completely at odds with each other. So I would super happy to see vanadiel remade but I doubt they would make it overworld focused and go back to dangerous mobs and the journey experience of travelling. So if they are just going to plop aetherytes everywhere, turn all the boats and airships to cutscenes and make it feel like the rest of XIV does it would defeat the purpose imo.

Still, if we get a whole world out of an expansion I'd receive it with open arms.

    Ath, Ill be honest.

I have looked at 11, seen a few guides and some gameplay videos. SOME of it looks good...but the time intensive stuff is..offputting. One of the things I like about FF 14 is the fact it isnt that time intensive, you can pick it up and put it down whenever..11 looks a lot like, yes I will say it, WOW style gameplay, and whilst it may appeal to some, to a lot, thats sorta not what I want to get mired down into..not anymore, anyway.

Theres grinds...and then theres grinds and a half.

Glad some like it, just not for me. I will also add that there ARE some elements FF 14 COULD include, but Im not sure as to how. Just my take on it. As an older gamer, I prefer an MMO I dont have to well..bury myself in..to get anywhere.

    Been there, done that.

( My late wife used to sit with me when I raided, with her own commentary. God...I miss her )

I'm all for it, I would love a remaster but kept it's battle system in place

FFXI is everything I want out of an MMO, it's more fun and engaging than xiv

FFXI isn't time intensive, I don't know what your getting this from, Gear doesn't become useless after three months like XIV, I would actually say FFXIV is more like the game that doesn't respect your time

    - you have to play "Catch-up" just to be where everyone else is at, going though dungeons and MSQ just to get through the Next Patch/ Expansion

while in FFXI, once you become level 99 which isn't hard, you can do stuff like Abuscade or Unity NMs ( Notorious Monsters)

in FFXI, once you get thought your nation missions, you can start on any expansion that you like, and once you do that expansion (like Chains of Promitha or Seekers of Adoulin) More endgame stuff opens.

like I said, gear doesn't become irrelevant once you go past certain levels, some of them are BiS still

like the Rajas ring, still very useful at 99 even if thought it's a level 30 ring

best ring, it's very low chance and RNG but one of the best you can get.

so I would say FFXIV is a game that doesn't respect your time, while in FFXI, you can take a long break and your gear will be fine, won't have to slog and a very long and boring MSQ just to reach the next expansion and you won't have to play catch up to do endgame stuff with your friends

also you can glam any gear you want and mix and match with /lockstyle

so if you want to be a THF and dress up like a white mage, your free to do just that

All classes are feeling way too similar, the game has already being too streamlined for too long in terms of builds and player style and customization. Is the price to pay for balance and honestly, i don't know if its worth it. We should get more freedom to play roles in a more diverse way, the trinity has served it's function, is time to move on.

Three months? the latest combat tier AND crafted has lasted longer than THAT.

Ambuscade and NMs are the literal definition of catch up. Just like with FFXIV where progressing through msq (which doesnt take long to do) will quickly get you to the ilv needed to play most of the endgame content. Savage's ilv is super easy to get to with tomestone/crafted gear.

No, gear lasts an even and odd patch, or 8-9 months.

I still remember my hype when I got this thing with crazy lucky RNG, I think it was around 5-10 spawns for me to get it.

Eh some Ambuscade stuff is still useful for a very long time and wouldn't necessarily call it "catch up" gear. FF11 has tiers of content that doesn't exist in FF14 and I agree Ambuscade is the first tier of endgame content you will do and it gets you moving into the harder stuff, however you can upgrade it to the +2 version and have a very solid piece of gear that can get you through a few tiers of endgame content to some extent.

Respecting players time is very difficult to compare between FF11 and FF14 for me simply because the games are so vastly different when it comes to gearing and endgame. FF11 is all horizontal progression while FF14 has no horizontal progression at all. You can spend a year building out a REAM weapon for your class and for a lot of the weapons you will feel the benefits from your efforts to make the weapon for as long as you play the game. In FF14 you get your BiS in the first couple months after a new raid tier and you are done till the next tier.
