




It's made lots of difference over the years. You may not be able to see it, joining as late as you seem to have. The game in 2013-2016 was very different in terms of qol.
People also only tend to remember negative changes not positive ones.
Most people don't remember that food buffs wore off when you died. You used to have to wait for CDs to come back up after wiping. Prog was delayed so much if the PLD used hallowed ground just before a party wipe and they needed that skill in their rotation early on.
Beast tribe currencies used to be in your inventory. Gear used to drop directly from savage bosses, not coffers, and there were no tokens. You just had to keep praying the pieces you needed would eventually drop.

This seems to be how the logic works, regrettably. For better or worse, humanity as a whole recalls negatives and atrocities with far increasing regularity than saints and revelations of great benevolence.
This is honestly embarrassingly petty for one who often counsels wisdom and patience.
