Edit: For the record, my response to that person was BECAUSE they said we shouldn't voice our opinions, and just leave it alone. Which I just disagree with fundamentally.

I think you misunderstood what the person was saying then.
It doesn't look like they're saying you can't have an opinion. What they commented on seems more to be along the lines of, stop attacking opposing opinions when it comes to the story. If someone says they liked the story, why are there so many people who try to convince them that their opinion is wrong when this is completely subjective.
At least that's how I read it.
